An 8-year-old special-needs child was suspended from school and forced to undergo psychiatric counseling over a picture he drew of Jesus Christ dead on the cross for a Christmas assignment.
School officials in Taunton, Mass., said the picture "violated the code of violence in the school handbook," said Toni Saunders, an educational consultant on special-needs children with the Associated Advocacy Center who is working with the boy's family.
"I couldn't believe what they were telling me," the boy's father, Chester Johnson, who also works for the school system as a substitute custodian, told The Washington Times on Tuesday. "I asked her, 'Are you fooling around?'"
Mr. Johnson said his son, who is a slow reader and has "a little speech problem," now wants to transfer schools. Mr. Johnson requested that his son not be named.
"I couldn't believe it," Ms. Saunders added, referring to the suspension. "This is a very religious family. They felt violated because of this."
The fracas began Thanksgiving night, when the boy was taken to see a Christmas display at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette in Attleboro, Mass. The next week, on Dec. 2, the boy's teacher at Lowell M. Maxham Elementary School asked all the students to draw something that reminded them of Christmas, and the pupil drew a crucifix like the one he had seen at the display.
The boy then was taken to the principal's office and asked why he drew this image.

Apparently the 'special needs' child is a lot more educated than the 'special needs' teacher.
Being smarter than the teacher often leads to a visit to the principal.
Liberals are at war with Jesus Christ. I don’t think I would want to be in their shoes when they stop wasting oxygen.
Glenn Beck understands that knee-jerk liberal reaction too. This child is obviously a "government authority denier."
I clicked on the link and I get a “This story has been removed.”
What? Why?
SUE SUE SUE SUE SUE.
We have got to start fighting fire with fire! Sue every school that continues this crap!
The first flag to represent any dissention amongst the Colonies, this flag was raised in the town of Taunton, Massachusetts as a symbol of the colonies frustration and unwillingness to be persecuted. The flag was the first in a series that would warn the British that the Colonies were a force to be reckoned with, and would not accept the any loss of their rights or freedom. The bold words Liberty and Union reflect the original sentiment of the Colonists, which was to be treated as equal citizens of the British Empire, (No taxation with representation!) rather then be excluded from it.
...and the Cougars?
This story has been removed... from the linky at the bottom.
Handel wrote The Messiah for Easter. NOT Christmas.
Yup. See my post #43, above.
Yeah after I read on down I saw that thanks.
Massachusetts the birth place of the American Revolution this nation went through to be able to freely express religious ideas WITHOUT FEAR of government mandated punishments or retributions by same for freely expressing such ideas anywhere as the framers and founder freely did in their official and unofficial capacities.
A desolate Marxist Ran State it has become indeed. Did those patriots who shed blood to purchase her GOD given freedoms die in vain? No GOD Himself hears their cries of How Long till their blood is avenged.
Thanks for the contact info!!!
obviously.
Did you have your own personal chair in the principal's office, too?
Fortunately for me, the principal in my elementary school was smarter than both of us. I think that was because she had been teaching so long that she had gotten her teaching certificate with only two years in a teachers college. She wasn't subjected to courses in pedagogy until she was old enough to know better.
No. Don't remember ever going to the principal's office during grade school.
This story isn’t quite what it seems to be. The child put his own name on a sign above the cross. When the teacher asked the child what this meant he said it was a picture of himself, dead, hanging from a cross. http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-722-Conservative-Politics-Examiner~y2009m12d16-Story-of-child-punished-for-drawing-Jesus-takes-troubling-turn.
So what should the teacher have done? What if the teacher did nothing, then three days later the kid hangs himself? I believe the teacher was only looking out for the child’s well-being. We need to be carefully with these kind of stories not to pass judgement before we have all the information. Sometimes shows like Glenn Beck or Sean Hannity get it wrong, so don’t believe everything you see on television or hear on the radio. -Merry CHRISTmas everyone, and God Bless America!!!
