WASHINGTON — Washington D.C.'s City Council has voted to legalize gay marriage in the nation's capital. Mayor Adrian Fenty has promised to sign the bill, which was co-sponsored by 10 of the council's 13 members. The final vote Tuesday was 11-2.

The bill now goes to Congress, which has final say over the district's laws. Opponents say they'll try to get Congress or voters to overturn it. Passage of the bill is a victory for gay marriage supporters, who have been dealt a recent string of defeats...

Gay marriage is legal in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa and Vermont. New Hampshire will begin issuing licenses in January.

If Congress doesn't reject the bill, D.C. should start issuing marriage licenses around St. Patrick's Day...

Unlike traditional laws which require APPROVAL, not disapproval.

Down is up, wrong is right, perversion is the norm.

Ummm ... wrong.

Just like any other law, this one has been APPROVED by the relevant legislative body. In this case, said body is the DC City Council. It must, like other laws, be APPROVED by the relevant executive, in this case the Mayor of Washington, DC. Since DC is a creature of the fedgov, there is one additional layer of "checks and balances": the Congress may DISAPPROVE the law if it so sees fit.

Up is up, down is down, and the DC City Council is populated by perverts.

The religious blacks in DC will love this. After all, the right to marry two sodomites is akin to getting rid of slavery, right?

As Rush says, elections have consequences.
