Hey, stop worrying about a massive government takeover of health care.
Youre in good hands:
Health officials are recalling hundreds of thousands of doses of swine flu vaccine after tests indicated they may not be potent enough to protect against the virus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notified doctors about the recall Tuesday. The recall involves about 800,000 doses made by Sanofi Pasteur. The doses are pre-filled syringes intended for young children, ages 6 months to almost three years.
Health officials say its not clear how many doses have already been given, but they dont think children need to be re-vaccinated. The lots passed potency tests when they were first shipped, but tests indicate the potency waned after.
It’s Bush’s fault I’m sure.
So let me get this straight. An overseas manufacturer has a problem and it’s Bush’s fault.
This happens during a time when a world pandemic is going to kill all of us and the gubmint has not been able to keep up with demand, in fact there are record shortages of all types of flu vaccines and is it Obama’s fault?
Or were they under pressure to just get them out and they cut some corners, endangering our children with faulty gubmint meds.
Our doc told the oldsters in our family to get the regular seasonal flu shot but not the h1n1.
I didn’t ask any further questions but I do trust him a lot
time for a clean sweep of washington...circle the wagons!!
Obanma should have just had the docs yank their tonsils, thus endeth the problem.
How about instead of spending $1.4 Trillion on a health care takeover, they abandon that idea and spend ALL $1.4 Trillion on this recall. Hey, recall ALL H1N1 doses. And spend the $1.4 Trillion we “saved” doing so. We’ll all be better off. And if there is ANY money left over, how about all giving it all to the sinators and reprehensibles to fly away to statistland until we defeat them ALL next year. Again, we will all be better off. Thankyou.
(and reports ‘report’ that there could not be ‘accidental’ mixing of the bird flu in with the vaccine because of handling methods of the two involved....population control? there are articles on that connection also.)
STAY HEATHLY - learn all the natural, preventive things you can take/do to prevent getting sick. One of the simplest - beside carrying and using - everywhere you go - a bottle of hand sanitizer - and even wearing gloves, and never ever touch public door handles or water faucets with bare hands and wash your hands the minute you come home from anywhere. Back to the simplest of preventive “medicine” - When you feel a twinge in your nose, that means ‘bugs’ have entered and are digging foxholes in preparation to invading the body proper.
You have a one hour window to kill them on the spot, preventing full invasion.
Simply take a garlic clove, smush the top and deeply sniff up each nostril several times. Kills them suckers in their boots. (I haven't had a flu shot in many decades nor have I had the flu - I'm a great granny now.)
then there's this:

“The nightmare scenario is that the new, mutated virus may
take on the characteristics of H5N1 or the avian flu. The vaccines administered for AH1N1 will
be ineffective against the new strain of H5N1 and the world may face a more deadly pandemic
then the current AH1N1 outbreak. There are scientists at WHO who are aware of this scenario
but their alarm has been suppressed by political and economic considerations.
and this :
In another suspicious turn of events, Ivorian national Konan Yao, a former researcher at the
Winnipeg laboratory that has been involved in A/H1N1 research and who was arrested by the
FBI at the U.S. border crossing on May 5 trying to sneak 22 vials of Ebola and HIV genetic
material into the United States for his new job at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda,
Maryland, near Washington, DC, was given his post-plea bargain sentence in federal court
in Grand Forks, North Dakota, late last month: 17 days in prison which equated to time served
and a $500 fine. Yaos federal charge was failure to present merchandise for inspection, a
lesser charge from the original attempting to bring biological material into the United States
without a permit. Yaos new job was at the NIHs Biodefense Research Laboratory.a”
but he had some high-up protectors - read more at the link
Rather - you have to expect 'inconveniences' in health when you're older. Got pain? Deal with it.
“tests indicate the potency waned after.”
IOW, they had to be fresh, and didn’t have much shelf life?
I don't think it's a big deal. I've never gotten any flu shot of any kind. My mother has and (of course she's got chronic problems for a decade) she often just feels worse for the week after. Ain't worth it to me. Of course, I hope I'm correct.
At his 18mo (and subsequent cold visit 2 wks later) check, I asked George’s ped about the H1N1 - open-ended question, such as “what do you think of it?” He said it’s mostly media hype. (He’s young, too.)
Smokin’ Joe I pinged your list and some other freepers to a new swine flu vaccine recall article ping .
Thanks Freeper Hennie Pennie for the Heads Up :)
What we should be asking is: "Why is 90% plus of the time in the WH, Congress and Senate, from day 1, being spent on a bill that won't take effect until 2014? (But of course, we start paying for it a month from now - in Jan 2010.)
But besides the money they'll be raking in, there's the panic to get the take over of our lives set in stone before the 2010 elections.
He can take 3 extra months fiddling and f*rting around on AFghanistan while our troops - because of it - suffer the highest losses per month of the whole war...but a ratio of 8 to 10 is being spent on this bill.
and 1 1/2 to 10 on partying. Leaves about 1/2 of 10 for actual 'work'?
(BTW, I finally got through to the Social Securtiy office to ask where our benefit statements for 2010 are? We usually get them 2 or more months before the new year. "We're a little late this year. They should be coming out next month."
Sure, we want you to run our health care. What's that you say? I can't get that opperation next year? It's being delayed another year?..."
It just depends on if you get it and how serious you get it. My sister in-law was in an induced coma in IGU for almost 3 weeks and on a respirator and on dialysis because her kidneys were shutting down. She had a feeding tube going to her stomach until last Friday and still has a trach tube even though she was released from ICU last Friday.
After a month she is now at another hospital where she has to under go physical therapy, because she can't even walk., and she still has to have dialysis and she probably won't be going home for Christmas and she was in the coma for Thanksgiving.
She didn't think H1N1 would be all that bad either........ and now, she's lucky to be alive, it nearly killed her.
If I understand it correctly, this recall is due to these INFANT and TODDLER vaccines, not having preservatives in them and they lost some of their strength for that reason. They are recalling them because they aren’t string enough, not because the vaccine will harm them, but, because the vaccine wouldn’t protect them.
Wow - I’m really sorry to hear about your SIL.
I truly hope she’s able to recover completely. How terrible.
No, but, I'm curious about my sister in-law's bill when she gets it. What do you figure a month in ICU on a respirator and dialysis, with a feeding tube and drainage tubes and tube going to the heart to monitor from within, might cost? Not to mention the new costs being racked up at the new hospital for all the physical therapy she needs to be able to walk again.
I'm sure she wishes she had gotten the shot. In fact, I KNOW she wishes she had gotten the shot.
I don’t know if the doctor’s have spoken to her about any potential long term lung damage or not. My understanding is that when people have this as severely as she did that they wind up with substantial lung damage.
There was an article posted in another thread that they might have figured out why some people get it so bad and others don’t.
The bad thing is that most people couldn’t get the vaccine even if they wanted it because of the shortages.
I’m still waiting to see if H1N1 goes away or if it stays. Supposedly it doesn’t have an off season like the seasonal flu.
