WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Winchester Ammunition was recently awarded a contract by the Immigration, Customs and Enforcement (ICE) division of the Department of Homeland Security to supply a maximum of 200 million, 40 cal. rounds over the next five years.

The load selected for this contract is a 135-grain, hollow point designed for the office of Field Operations of Customs and Border Protection. It will fall under the Winchester Ranger line.

I am convinced that the economy has a lot to do with fewer sales. The desire to stock up is still there for many, just not the financial means.

Of course the economy is a factor, as well as the fact that many have horded ammo and simply don't need any more, hence the price drops and availability.

Thanks for the tip.

I don’t really know what had been done to the firing pin before I bought the pistol, but I know the second firing pin (the one I installed) was not dry fired - and also broke in less than 100 rounds.

I had a suspicion is was probably something to do with the metal used.

No way. They used CAST IRON for a firing pin? [facepalm]

For your 9mm, look at Hornady Critical Defense rounds.

How do they differ from Winchester or say Gold Dot 147gr JHP?

Oops - my mistake. Cast steel just doesn’t roll off the fingertips, but that’s what they are - cast steel, not iron. And it’s a weak, brittle steel.

Casting a firing pin is just dumb.

For O’s 200,000 man police force that works out to 1,000 rounds each. I don’t understand how any so called intelligent person cannot see what’s happening here.

I know a big fat obese guy who started a “re-election” poll on obama and, of course, it showed him getting re-elected with ease. This guy is too stupid to realize that a fat turd like him will be the first denied medical treatment. I just hope I live long enough to see the surprise look on the idiots’ faces who voted for this clown.

Well, yeah, that’s what I was objecting to as well, the casting more than the iron.

We agree on that 180gr round for the SIG P229. I usually carry two mags of 180gr FMJ for vehicle applications and one mag of 155 JHP for soft targets.

My lookin’ for trouble carry is a Glock mod 20, though. For that one, it’s a mix of FMJ and jealously hoarded Black Talon. It’s nice to have 15+1 rounds of near-.41 mag persuasion on tap when the goign gets wierd.

Unless it’s an anvil, you shouldn’t use casting to make an object you’re going to strike repeatedly with a hammer.

Their hollow point is filled with a proprietary rubber to ensure penetration of heavy clothing and then proper expansion. See here: http://www.tactical-life.com/online/exclusives/hornadys-critical-defense-ammo/

Of course, it’s hard to go wrong with Gold Dot, too! Ditto Winchester. All quality ammo.

I think you're blowing it out of proportion... it's spread out over 5 years so that's only 2600 rounds per year per employee.

As of today at 11:29CST the census bureau estimates there are 308,158,266 Americans. According to an AP-Ipsos poll (Link Here), approximately 41% of those classify themselves as "Conservative". That means there are roughly 126,344,889 conservatives in America today.

If you divide that between the number of available rounds per month it would require to take out all conservatives at a rate of 3,250,000 rounds per month, it would take nearly 3 ¼ years to completely wipe out the opposition... We’ve got plenty of time.

.45 Federal Premium, 165 Grain, Hydra-Shok, JHP.
When you want what you hit to stay down permanently.

Actually, Federal HST (Hydra-Shok Two) is the successor to Hydra-Shok, and a much better expansion technology. Available currently for under $20/50 in LEO pack.

Would love it, but looked at a Sig - roughly twice the price of my Springfield XDM.

With just over 15,000 employees, that works out to just over 13,000 rounds per employee.

continuing your math, over the 5 year contract life that's only 50 rounds per employee per week. Not so out of line when you consider range time.
