Bye Bye Blanche (Lincoln, D-AR)
Weekly Standard ^ | 12/21/2009 | Kenneth Tomlinson

Posted on 12/13/2009 6:50:43 PM PST by markomalley

Even before she became the swing vote that forced consideration of Obamacare onto the Senate floor, two-term Arkansas senator Blanche Lambert Lincoln had a dubious distinction: "For 2010, she may be the most endangered Democratic senator in the country," says Public Policy Polling head Dean Debnam.

Political handicappers began to note her vulnerability last summer when, in the face of the tea-party movement, Lincoln refused to hold town hall meetings with her constituents. In a conference call with Arkansas reporters, she called tea-party confrontations with politicians "un-American," and ever since, even though she relented and held a few town halls in September, her negatives have outnumbered her positives in Arkansas polls.

In Washington reporters insist on labeling Lincoln a moderate, even if her lifetime ACU rating is virtually identical to Harry Reid's. She voted against the confirmation of Justice Alito. She voted against cloture for judicial nominee Miguel Estrada seven times. She voted against the surge in Iraq.

As noteworthy as her liberalism is her political gamesmanship. In 2005 and 2007, she supported legislation to give unions "card check," eliminating workers' right to vote by secret ballot on whether to unionize. This year she opposes card check.

And her shifting positions on Obamacare are notorious. On a recent Saturday, Harry Reid needed the vote of every Democrat to block a GOP amendment to the health care bill. Lincoln was there for her leader. But when the amendment went down by a wider margin than anticipated, Lincoln returned to the floor and changed her vote from "no" to "yes," more in tune with the polls showing Arkansans overwhelmingly opposed to the president's plan.

Lincoln is so full of her conceited self she's lost touch with her constituents. Getting tossed out of office is just what she deserves.

If Lincoln knows she is toast then what does she have to lose by going kamikaze in the name of Reid?

Nonsense.

With your attitude, who in the HELL would ever be dumb enough to serve, and take YOUR abuse?

Stop the circular firing squads.

Quit eating your own.

There are dozens of very, very good Conservatives in Congress.

Hang on there. Jim DeMint can stay. So can Darryl Issa. I hope nobody would mind Michele Bachmann staying around for another term or two.

“Circular firing squad”, my alpha. There are THOUSANDS of very, very good conservatives who are not yet IN Congress. We lose NOTHING by throwing all the current rascals out, and we stand to gain some semblance of integrity and public service in Washington.

Keep turning ‘em over until they all get the idea.

True. And please, please, please don’t allow her to keep her pension or health care goodies or work in government again.

These people need to be held responsible.

While I am not in favor of tossing 100%, the Congress does need to be brought back to reality - THEY ARE GIVEN THEIR JOBS BY US, THEY ARE TO LISTEN TO US. THEY DO NOT TAKE ORDERS FROM THE MAN-CHILD AND HIS CHICAGO CREW IN THE WHITE HOUSE. IF tossing 100% is the only way to get their heads screwed on straight, then it has to be, CAUSE TODAY MOST OF THEM ARE NOT LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE. THEY ARE AFRAID OF NANCY, HARRY, and RAHM more than their own re-election.

No, the one thing that would be lost by throwing out the good (true conservatives such as Sen. DeMint and Rep. Darrell Issa) with the bad (whole bunch) is procedural and policy experience, knowledge and expertise.

I realize some will perceive that, in itself, as a detriment; IMO, the truly conservative 10% who stay would be the "seasoned citizens" who know how the game is played and could lead the team (so-to-speak).

All rookies, no captains or coaches would be another disaster. Obama would be the only elected official with experience and know-how. I shudder to think of the dictatorial take-over power that would be available to him then. (It's bad enough already!)

I won't shed a tear for Lincoln. If she doesn't get re-elected, she'll be offered some choice lobbying jobs and seats on boards of directors. Oh, and she'll make lots more money too.

That's the beautiful thing about about being a US senator or congressman: Even if you lose your seat, somebody always finds you desirable and worth a lot more money.

I actually come from the same little town she does, one year behind her in school. She was mediocre then, she’s mediocre now. Nobody ever said “Wow, that Blanche Lambert is a really sharp kid.” I don’t remember much about her at all one way or the other. She has never held a real job in her entire life.
