Houston, Texas has become the largest city in the United States to elect an openly gay mayor after City Controller Annise Parker was declared the winner of a runoff election tonight. Social conservatives fought her election, funding a campaign aimed at turning out likeminded voters to support her opponent, former city attorney Gene Locke. But Parker's endorsements from labor, police, women's, gay rights and other groups were echoed by the Houston Chronicle, the area's major daily newspaper, and her campaign ran a superior get-out-the-vote effort.

Talk about wolves in sheep's clothing
Parker praised the support of the Victory Fund and its donors, who raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help fund her campaign. “I am so grateful to the Victory Fund and its supporters for believing in this campaign from the beginning. This race was about the future of Houston, and whether we will face that future proud to be an open, welcoming, and fair-minded city. Tonight Houstonians said yes to a future like that, and I am glad the Victory Fund helped make that happen
We gotta pray for Houston. Looks like Joel Osteen and Lakewood Church has got some praying to do also. Maybe there’s redemption in this somewhere, maybe she’ll get saved.
How can Texas get punked like this.
Houston’s new motto:
“Houston Texas - Our Goal is Detroit”
Someone needs to be called out on the carpet here.
Don’t mess with Texas, they’re all Dikes now.
Now if only you are an illegal mexican lesbian you can own the city!
Houston: Where Carpet is Queen.
Or: Houston, we have a problem.
Are you sure about that?
I thought Texas was different than California.
Gay’s in Houston? I have always had my suspicions...
“I thought Texas was different than California”
Everywhere but the major cities. I live just outstide of Houston and she is not supported. Unfortunately many of us commute to Houston to work.
Too bad, it was a nice town. Soon the city will be over run by queers and jihadists.
New Detroit , Texas.
Campaign finance reform that would really work:
Politicians should only be allowed to accept campaign donations from individuals who live within the geographical area the politician will represent.
No out of city, district, state or country funds, as applies. And, only individuals - no companies, corporations or groups of any kind should be allowed to contribute.
Politicians would sober up real fast.
Yeah, what the hell is going on in Texas. The TXGOP needs to stop this now. They need to work much harder and stop playing lip service to conservatives. I guess the same is true all over the place. The GOP either adapts or gets out of the way.
No doubt due to support from the tongue and groove construction union.
