Writing about Sarah Palin in Newsweek last month, I pointed out the crude way in which she tried to Teflon-ize herself when allegations of weird political extremism were made against her. Thus, she had once gone to a Pat Buchanan rally wearing a pro-Buchanan button, but only because she thought it was the polite thing to do. She and her husband had both attended meetings of the Alaskan Independence Partyhe as a memberbut its name, she later tried to claim, only meant "independent." (The AIP is a straightforward secessionist party.) She didn't disbelieve all the evidence for evolution, only some of it. She hadn't exactly said that God was on our side in Iraq, only that God and the United States were on the same side. She says that she left Hawaii Pacific College after only one year because the climate was too sunny for an Alaskan*; her father (whom she considers practically infallible) tells her most recent biographers that she quit because of the preponderance of Asian and Pacific islanders: "They were a minority type thing and it wasn't glamorous. So she came home." And so on. As I tried to summarize the repeated tactic:
So there it is: anti-Washington except that she thirsts for it, and close enough (and also far enough away to be "deniable") to the paranoid fringe element who darkly suggest that our president is a Kenyan communist.

They should do a story about Obama’s pals.
My response to this kind of stuff? "Yeah, whatever..."

Excerpts of the last parargraph:
“...That bloom [Sarah’s] will soon enough fade, and it will fade really quickly if she uses it to prostitute herself to the Nixonites on one day and then to cock-tease the rabble on the next.”
I’m guessing the rabble are the “Reaganites”?
Reading Sarah’s book now. Cannot put the book down.
We need to keep our prayers strong for Sarah.
The Buchanan/independence ties, even if once true, are ancient history. Beginning with the election, she has been far closer to the neocons (Billy Kristol was her debate handler) than either the paleocons or secessionist pro-independence libertarians. Her recent enthusiastic praise of Obama’s Afghan policy indicates as much.
I find the vitriol of gay men against Sarah to be bewildering.
Gotta put Hitchens in that ‘nutjob’ category.
Politicans do all sorts of crazy things. Why, once, President Obama attended a conference in Copenhagen that was dedicated to the proposition that mankind controlled the earth’s climate.
Palin/Hitchens ping
Elitist Democrats HATE Sarah... it’s what makes them Democrats (and EVIL)
That settles it.
He has vagina-envy: he is jealous (sexually) of the male attention she gets and the electricity she generates.
Further deponent sayeth not.
Cheers!
Gov. Palin is an out of the closet Christian and many gays hate Christians. She is a mother, and some gay men see mothers as standing between them and the kiddos. She is female all the way - beautiful, moral and gracious - and often gay men hate women like this. They want to bring her down to their level and that is why they are sexually insulting to her. She is a family advocate and some gays are jealous of normal families because they are standing on the outside so they want to destroy normal families.
Socially, everything about Sarah Palin gets the gay guys’ panties in a knot. Not all gay men are this insecure, petty and stupid. Catty gay guys are nasty buggers.
Looks like Hitchens has wee wee’d on himself.
I’m not a fan of Palin (primarily for her scattered, disjoint speaking style that makes me cringe) as I think there are better representatives of the conservative message (Rep Mike Rogers or Michele Bachmann of Minnesota).
But this vitriol from Hitchinson is way over the top. What a hateful disgusting, condescending coward he is.
I searched in vain for his email address so I could take him out to the woodshed with a hard-hitting email, but no such luck. Anyone know his email address?
Oh is that his issue? He’s gay? Didn’t realize.
But that explains his hatred for Sarah. He fears normalcy.
Hitchens sounds like a grown up Stewie Griffin here.
Let it go the way of other leftist rags.
