Sorry not buying it. I come on here every day and see at least 4 posts badmouthing evolutionists. Not one from the other side.

Most of the fervent evos got banned or opused out roughly in the 2005 - 2006 timeframe.

IIRC, it more or less started after one of the evos (Patrick Henry) had a list-of-links on science, and as a subset of that, on evolution, located on his FReeper homepage. He had a number of links to posts with detailed arguments FOR evolution.

His homepage went blank, as did some other homepages of other evos who had mirrored his links.

Between what they felt was a pattern of (shall we call it) dis-preferential treatment from the mods, and the intransigence of some of the pro-creation posters (having the same points made again, and Again, and AGAIN), they began to try to find a place where they talk about scientific topics without things turning into a "less filling/tastes great" crevo food fight.

Some of the threads have been removed because they became classic flamewars, with people revealing other posters' real-life names (a BIG no-no). IIRC it was one of the atheist pro-evo types whose name was displayed.

Ironically enough, this person makes no bones about their real name and profession showing up on Darwin Central.

Another thing whch came up was the feeling (which I'm sure is leading to a lot of champagne corks popping among the "see I told you so" personalities on DC, given the article at the top of this thread) that the *reputation* of the GOP as the home of the "Neanderthal inbred fundamentalist unscientific unwashed" was going to drag down the GOP, and with it mess up the rearguard action or resurgence of conservative values. Many of the people now on DC feel like they are making a "valiant last stand" for reason (between the Christian fundies on one hand, and the New Age Moonbats on the left).

And a number of the people who have left have either posted things directly challenging Jim Robinson (not a good idea to tweak the founder of a site, even if you're NOT talking Charles Johnson of LGF), or tried to post over hear on occasion to "stir things up" : although that is sporadic, individual, and not "official policy".

The differences between DC and FR are:

1) FR is explicitly pro-Christian, with more acceptance of fundamentalists and evangelicals than most other political sites. DC is more scientific, tongue-in-cheek conspiratorial ("The Conspiracy That Cares"), and shades atheistic.

2) FR is more conservative, from my limited lurking DC is more libertarian.

3) FR has more straight politics, "support the troops" and like that, DC is more on science and current events. (Example: I don't think I've ever seen any Guiliani bug-zapper threads or Mitt-bot wars on DC.)

Different strokes for different folks.

4) DC seems to have more posters who make more of a deal over their intellectual attainments -- advanced degrees or academic/govt. lab positions. FR has its share too, but they usually don't seek or claim the limelight -- hence giving the impression to the casual observer that the site is lacking in intellectual heft.

5) FR has Sunday morning talk show threads, Palin-bots galore (Go Sarah!), and FReeper canteens.

One last -- if you go lurk at DC you can find lots of anti-FReeper and/or anti-creationist comments. The proof is left as an exercise for the interested lurker.

I'll probably get mercilessly flamed from both sides for this post, so I'll quit now to don the asbestos.

Cheers!

That's BS.

You can be christian and still believe in evolution. Oh. I guess not Christian, and I still don't know how that captial C got hijacked.

You can be Conservative and still believe in Evolution.

Evolutionists don't support our troops? I'm a Navy veteran.

I've written 2 books. Never mentioned it here.

I don't even know where the "DC" site is.

Not from me. It's good to see someone without a dog in the fight come to the same conclusions about DC as the rest of us.

I think your post 523 captures the situation very well.

Good post. As I recall the Patrick Henry guy started all of the anti-Christian threads and it was obvious that they were started for sport. He prefaced them with comments clearly meant for his swarm to appear and begin the bashing. they particularly liked new meat, and I know, cuz I was some.

I got here just before they all left and started Darwin Central, in order to discuss "real science". They keep coming back here, obviously to attack believers since they are free to discuss "real science" on their own site. They probably bore each other to death
