Not Barack Obama the man, mind you. Barack Obama the idea. Which, in fairness, is true. The evolutionary flash point in question is called religious worship and it happened a long time ago; the cult of The One, of which Smith is evidently a proud member, is just the political example du jour. But whatever: After watching Demi Moore pledge to serve our president and Tony Bennett encourage people to support him in whatever he does, no amount of celebrity bootlicking should surprise anyone.
Instead, and since its semi-related, let me use this post to open discussion on something thats been bugging me all day. How to explain this trend from Pews new survey on Americans and faith?

Ping.
I though evolutionary flashpoints occurred every few thousand years . . . one doesn’t have to go back nearly so far to find figures like Obama. Hitler, il Duce, Stalin, Mao . . . why not even a century has passed since those men were treated with the same worship and adulation Smith is holding for Obama.
Ugh, I always hated him. Now, another reason.
What a bunch of racist rectums.........
I saw this while in the doctor’s office waiting room today, and my jaw dropped.
Will Smith donated to Scientology. ‘Nuff said. He’s an asshat. ‘Wherever the wind blows’ with these ‘people’.
I am still trying to figure out what they see in this guy. I was watching a clip of his speech today, chin pointed in the air, and I turned the channel. Sometimes I think these people are just imbeciles...no one with a brain can think this guy is anything special, he has done absolutely nothing with his life and they adore him. Makes one sick!
Shouldn’t that be “FLUSH POINT”?
yes
I used to like Will Smith....
Oh...well...
As many on FR already know, I never saw the Will Smith phenomenon as anything other than the fact that he replaced OJ as the “safe black guy” for middle American whites.
It’s the hope of realizations yet unmet. They like him, and that’s all they need to know. They expect him to do great things. They just don’t know exactly what it is they want him to do. What he has done that is unConstitutional they don’t worry about. That he has no experience before being gifted with the office, means nothing. He’s the man.
He’s black. He’s Barack. Don’t give them no flack.
The mindset is, he can do no wrong. Anyone who disagrees with him has to be racist or consummately unfair.
You and I have never met the perfect individual, and now they have. He is above question. His believers grant him control over them that should be reserved for God. They’ll deny it till the sun sets in the west. It’s true.
We have seen what other world leaders could do without checks and balances. They have too, but this is different.
In time they may or may not be sorry. Jane Fonda never was. George Soros never was.
God save the Republic...
“Independence Day” was a fun movie. I enjoyed it.
I never liked OJ, for some unknown reason, until it became apparent and, well, I have some friends who are golfers at a much higher level than I could ever attain that told me for several years that Tiger was not what he appeared to be....
I don’t do phenomena.
When I heard of his support for Hussein during the election, I decided to say “no” to his movies.
Now after this?
“Damn no.”
