A Republican lawmaker with a mission to save Christmas is aiming his latest salvo at President and first lady Obama, who've followed in a recent tradition to eliminate the mention of Christmas in the White House holiday cards.
The card selected by the Obamas announces: "Season's Greetings." Inside, it reads: "May your family have a joyous holiday season and a new year blessed with hope and happiness."
But Rep. Henry Brown, R-S.C., said abandoning Christmas at Christmas is just plain wrong. On Tuesday, he introduced a resolution calling for the protection of the sanctity of Christmas. So far, 44 lawmakers, Democrat and Republican, have co-signed the bill.
"I believe that sending a Christmas card without referencing a holiday and its purpose limits the Christmas celebration in favor of a more 'politically correct' holiday," Brown told Fox News Radio on Thursday.
"This kind of reproach is exactly what my Christmas resolution, introduced to the House of Representatives earlier this week, is against as the resolution expresses support for the use of Christmas symbols and traditions and disapproval of all attempts to ban or limit references to Christmas," he added.

What recent tradition? Not during Bush.
and I thought Obama would be sending out “Happy Kwanza” cards.
When will all of America wake up to the FACT that at every opportunity the uhbamas stick a finger in America’s eye, denigrate every tradition we have, elevate every piss pot nation’s values over our own, apologizing all the while for our freedoms and strengths ... Arrrrgh!
"What's missing from the White House Christmas card? Christmas. 'Holiday' Cards Ring Hollow for Some on Bushes' List

"This month, as in every December since he took office, President Bush sent out cards with a generic end-of-the-year message, wishing 1.4 million of his close friends and supporters a happy "holiday season."
"Many people are thrilled to get a White House Christmas card, no matter what the greeting inside. But some conservative Christians are reacting as if Bush stuck coal in their stockings.
"This clearly demonstrates that the Bush administration has suffered a loss of will and that they have capitulated to the worst elements in our culture," said William A. Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights. "
The cards that I saw had Scripture on them. No. I don’t remember what years.
Sure thought the card I received from President George and First Lady Laura Bush said Merry Christmas, but that was in a land and time long ago and far, far away. Sigh.
IIRC he added the scripture after the criticism but kept the seasons greetings/happy holidays.
There are sooooo many things to complain about, but this isn’t one of them.
They send cards out to many many people. Some Jewish, some Christian and some probably even muslim.
I send out cards to many different people as well. Some Jewish, some Christian and only one Muslim (but a really nice one who takes special care of us in his business). I send out “Seasons Greetings” because it’s a hassle to count how many are jewish, blah blah blah. It’s truly the thought that counts and there are very many contacts the President and family would have. Even pagans or wiccans with Yule.
So it makes us look like we are griping for the sake of griping if you ask me and makes legitimate complaints seem like we are being petty.
Not true, I got cards every year and they had scriptures in every single one right from the start.
For 2007 scroll down. The white House has removed GWB's cards. The list only goes to GHWB. The website is totally different. Interesting ain't it.
Here is a link with all of them.
This is a discussion forum. We’re discussing. :-)
I couldn’t find that page. The one that I did find at the WH site didn’t list GWB. Thanks.
Thanks for the correction.
