Palinism
NY SUN ^ | December 2, 2009 | Editorial of The New York Sun

A surprising thing is taking place as Sarah Palin starts speaking out on the issues in recent speeches, internet postings, and in the book tour she is now undertaking for her memoir “Going Rogue.” An outline is starting to appear in respect of the substance of her world view — call it “Palinism” — and it is far more substantive than her detractors suggest or than we gained a glimpse of during the campaign. She has been, in a straightforward way, stepping up on certain issues that her fellow Republicans would do well to emulate.

This started to come into view for us when she gave her interview to Barbara Walters and was asked what she thought of Israel’s West Bank settlements. “I disagree with the Obama administration on that,” Palin replied. “I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow. More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead. And I don’t think that the Obama administration has any right to tell Israel that the Jewish settlements cannot expand.”

Her comments ignited something of a kerfuffle on the pro-Israel left, which has long opposed Israel’s settlements. But the formulation by the former Alaska governor struck us as a wonderful statement of an emerging policy. It provides a glimpse of a leader who would respect Israel’s right to establish, democratically, its own strategy in its own sphere and could restore the standing of America’s president in the eyes in the Israelis, among whom it has plunged since President Obama’s speech in Cairo and his out-reach to the non-democratic Arab leaders.

Last night Olbermann was apoplectic (as usual) over Palin’s op-ed piece in the WSJ yesterday. He kept referring to her as “Sister Sarah” and called her writng “wierd”. Of course he had another lefty on to back up his moronic views. I never watch his show but this one was like watching a car wreck. You want to look away but just can’t...

I am reading her book now and couldn’t agree with you more. The book gives much more insight into how unique and refreshing she is on the important issues of today and her understanding of them.

Wish she could have just come right out and said that B.O. was an anti-Semite.

Maybe in her next interview with babs.

Up until last year, I have never been passionate about a politician, a celebrity or anyone on a national stage. I knew what I believed and what I valued, but never felt the need to stand behind a figure as much I do about Gov. Palin. She has connected with me and my husband in a way no one has before. I say this because we were both too young to remember President Reagan and his achievements and communication.

Sarah is a special breed. She isn’t a trained politician. She’s smart, quick, relatable and has the stones to say what she believes is right.

My husband and I agree, we will crawl over broken glass to see she becomes the leader this country desperately needs.

Gotta love that spirit...

“Broken glass Palin supporters...”

Sign me up...

But I fear as happened to the demoniac in the Gospel story, the evil spirits will tear and rend at the fabric of this country before it ever gives up power over it.

The going ahead could get rough and there may be bloodshed.

I think many people believe, or will believe by the time 2012 hits, that the fight is going to be worth it.

I truely believe the American spirit will have a remarkable comeback at some point in the next 3 years. Maybe it’s too optimistic, but I just have that feeling in my stomach something big is coming. It may not be a great beginning, but it will have a great end.

I'm about half-way through the book, and I'd say it's easily the most important policy document of the last hundred years.

I really don't care that many or most people might disagree with that statement. Just look at the fix this country is in base on all the policy decisions up to this point.

Without following hers, or a very similar set of principles, this nation will not survive or recover.

I just have that feeling in my stomach something big is coming.

I agree, but without quite as much optimism. Something BIG is coming. It may be the most terrible years/decades in our country's history as the world tries to deal with a Rogue-Superpower that used to be America [National-Socialist Germany was a deadly danger for a decade. Soviet-Socialist Russia was a deadly danger for much longer. I don't want to imagine the world trying to deal with Omaba's Socialist version of what used to be America in a year or two]. It may be something wonderful as America returns to constitutional government [limited government provides maximum freedom and opportunity for everyone]. I'm hoping and praying that it'll be good, but I'm just about certain that we will live in interesting times. I am somewhat optimistic because of Sarah Palin's supporters. There are a whole lot of them, and they are mostly informed and active Americans. Palin supporters aren't taken in by her (very) pretty face or by her delivery of an energetic speech. They have read her positions and judged her character based on her actions and her performance. I'm not 100% convinced that Sarah can save our country, but she does have me convinced that she's the best hope we've found, and that is based on substance, not on shallow buzzwords like "hope" and "change".

Read her book!

Oh, I shall. I have two copies sitting in a bag. Which she will sign. Tonight.

Got my ticket in hand. I am really looking forward to it...
