44 Percent Would Rather Have Bush In Office?
Atlantic ^ | 9 Dec 2009 | Marc Ambinder

It's a bit hard to believe, but that's what a Public Policy Polling survey suggests: that only half of Americans would rather have President Obama in the White House than his predecessor, while 44 percent would prefer George W. Bush to still be president. Here's PPP's Tom Jensen:

"Perhaps the greatest measure of Obama's declining support is that just 50% of voters now say they prefer having him as President to George W. Bush, with 44% saying they'd rather have his predecessor. Given the horrendous approval ratings Bush showed during his final term that's somewhat of a surprise and an indication that voters are increasingly placing the blame on Obama for the country's difficulties instead of giving him space because of the tough situation he inherited. The closeness in the Obama/Bush numbers also has implications for the 2010 elections. Using the Bush card may not be particularly effective for Democrats anymore, which is good news generally for Republicans and especially ones like Rob Portman who are running for office and have close ties to the former President.

Beating someone 55 percent to 44 percent is a pretty good margin in politics, but it's surprising given that the two contestants in this numbers game are Obama and the wildly unpopular Bush.

“Jeb Bush/Palin 2012”

As much as I wholeheartedly disagree with you I admire your passion a lot. At least you aren’t a coward like the Romney supporters who are to afraid to just end their post with “Romney 2012”.

But Palin has to be number one, she’s a phenom, she’s what we need and Jeb is not IMHO. Jeb’s smooth as hell though I’ll give you that.

I wonder how the MSM will react when this number tops 50%.

NBC and CBS talking heads will commit suicide, live, bringing about their highest ratings in years. Crissy Matthews will have a vibrator implanted in his leg to regain a that permanent tingle. CNN will properly display their mourning by decorating the sets in black and Keith Olbermann will report Obama's approval is at 90% and still growing.

Totally inaccurate poll. At this point, I'd rather have Bush. But who am I kidding? I'd rather have Carter than obama.

Sure do. A lot of perfunctory posts here, as usual.

"Given the horrendous approval ratings Bush showed during his final term that's somewhat of a surprise.."

Somewhat? Imagine how these numbers would read if the media simply played it straight down the middle and merely reported exactly has transpired since Obama took office.

WHY would the Atantic publish this type of information?

There is something very suspicious about this; the Atlantic is where Andrew Sullivan works, and he is the author of particularly nasty articles about both Trig Palin and his mother, Governor Sarah Palin.

Inotherwords, the Atlantic has a known track record of bitter misogyny, of utterly DESPISING Sarah Palin.

So I am very curious that the Atlantic would ever do such a poll, much less publish the results.

Was it a fake poll?

What is their REAL intent? What is going on? This does not make any sense.

It wasn’t the Atlantic’s poll- it was conducted by the PPP, which is a Democratic-Party affiliated polling firm. Why would they publish the results? Two reasons I can think of:

1) polling firms earn credibility by reporting their findings, whether favorable to the firm’s patrons or not.
2) a lot of Democrats are tired of Obama’s tinkering with the economy. They want a full-blown New Deal II. They think it would cause Obama’s popularity to soar. No, I am not joking.

Palin for President in 2012.

Jeb Bush for Private Citizen in 2012.

Ack.

The only Bush I want to see in the White House from now on would be the type that sits in a pot of dirt.

Agreed 100%. While I defended George Bush against most of what the radical left was saying about him; he was like to many “old guard” Republicans. Only giving conservatives the time of day when they come looking for campaign contributions.

Being a Floridian, I can saying 8 years of Jeb was enough for me. Jeb is not what this country will need to stop the bleeding and correct the immeasurable damage the Dems have done to her.

With that said, given the choice between Bush/Obama, Crist/Bush, I’d take a Bush. Yes, I’d take them over what we have now, but not in the future.
