CBS is canceling the soap opera "As the World Turns" after more than a half-century on the air.
CBS says the final episode will air next September, in its 54th year. Daytime dramas have been in a long-term ratings decline, and CBS ended the daytime soap "Guiding Light" earlier this year.

The cancellation will leave CBS with only two daytime dramas: "The Young and the Restless" and "Bold and Beautiful."

We were in Lake Como ,Italy, in 1997, and staying at the Villa D’Este. The BATB was being filmed at the hotel. I had never watched the soap but did recognize some of the characters. When we got home ,I looked forward to watching what we saw being filmed every day. Here it is 2009 and I still turn it on.
“Then she would remember the deep freeze by maniacal Mikkos Cassadine on Port Charles back in the early 80s.”
LOL!
From my wife via email:
“Yes I do remember the deep freeze the Ice Princess story line with Mikkos and his weather machine I believe Port Charles had freezing weather in the summer!”
Global climate change? :)
Young women are all online and the 25-64 demographic all have to work outside the home to pay their taxes. This leaves the Welfare Mom viewers (who frankly prefer Jerry Springer and Maury Povich), and the sort of viewer that as one station manager so tactfully put it “we lose ten of every day through the obituary column”.
They should go out with a flourish:
ZOMBIES!
My GrandMother died 2 years ago and I don’t think she ever missed an episode of the CBS soaps from the time they got their first TV on.I’m glad they lasted her whole life because she would’ve probably matched to the studios and told them about it!
LOL! I don’t think anyone will believe them if they say he died. It’s up to what 6 times or more?
Yeah, my 91 yr. old Mother will be too!
Daytime TV is a wasteland. Come to think of it, nighttime TV is pretty much one, too.
At least. The Phoenix, donchano!
I’d like to see Santa Barbara on DVD. That was weird at times.
Wow. Haven’t watched this for years but I remember coming home from kindergarten and sitting with mom and a snack and watching this.
As the Stomach Turns
The Old and the Listless
Genital Hospital
One Wife to Give...
You get the idea.
If Miss Cleo actually could see the future, she’d have called YOU first!

Are you kidding? She can see I don’t have any money.
I remember back in the 80s when the show had Steve and Betsy. Betsy of course was played by a young Meg Ryan and then Frannie was played by Julianne Moore.
Shouldn't a psychic always answer the phone, "I knew you were calling."
That's true. She can see that you ain't about to GET any, either.
I remember as a kid sitting at tv trays eating lunch with my grandparents watching As the World Turns.
