Palin, Birtherism And National Review
The Atlantic ^ | 12/5/09 | Andrew Sullivan Of No Party Or Clique

Posted on 12/07/2009 12:34:01 PM PST by steve-b

To its credit, National Review once attacked those who refused to accept the prima facie evidence of Barack Obama's birth certificate as proof of his eligibility to be president of the United States.

The hallmark of a conspiracy theory is that a lack of evidence for the theory is taken as yet more evidence for the theory. Indeed, the maddening thing about dealing with conspiracy hobbyists of this or any sort is the ever-shifting nature of their argument and their alleged evidence: Never mind the birth certificate, his step-grandmother said he was born in Kenya! (No, she didn't.)
Now examine Sarah Palin's precise point made Thursday night:
I think the public, rightfully, is still making it an issue. I don't have a problem with that. I don't know if I would have to bother to make it an issue 'cause I think there are enough members of the electorate who still want answers.
One might expect NRO to write something - anything - to deal with the fact that the person they wanted to be vice-president has just embraced the conspiracy theory they have explicitly condemned....

The hallmark of a conspiracy theory is that a lack of evidence for the theory is taken as yet more evidence for the theory.

When the lack of evidence is a ten-dollar copy of a government document that Obama has failed to publicly produce - and instead he has spent millions to not have to produce it - you have to wonder why some folks such as Sullivan think the birthers are so off-base? And no, I'm not a birther, but I can spot horsehockey when I see it.

Hey Andrew Sullivan, isn't there some gay club in the sleazy part of town you are supposed to be visiting?
Why doesn't leave the selection of the GOP candidates to real conservatives eh?

This coming from a guy who actively promoted the conspiracy theory that Bristol was actually Trig's mother? BWAHAHAHA!

“...prima facie...”

Nope, that “certificate” ain’t the real thing and you know it, you imbecile.

There is a reason the Kenyan Klod has spent over $1M to hide his record.

Wonder what it could be?

Question for you Steve.

Andrew Sullivan thought it perfectly acceptable to demand Palin produce a DNA test to prove Trig was her son.

Using your own standards, does that not make Sullivan a crazy fringe kook with no credibility?

Is Barack Obama a natural-born citizen of the U.S.?
Some outdated versions of this item conclude by stating that "It should be demanded that Obama produce his 1961 Hawaiian birth certificate," but in fact his campaign made an image of that document available on the Internet back in mid-2008.

all Governor Palin “said” was that people have the RIGHT to ask for the same proof of obama’s birth, as they asked for her baby’s birth

Andy misquoted her and twisted her analogy into a hysterical story- he seems to be unwell these days, perhaps he has a persistent UTI, or is he entering menopause?

The hallmark of a conspiracy theory is that a lack of evidence for the theory is taken as yet more evidence for the theory.

Lack of evidence = no original B/C from BHO.

So by that logic, the conspiracy theory here is that BHO is a natural born US citizen!

I see “clownpost” is one of the keywords.

“assclownpost” may be more like it.

(No, she didn't.)

Well, yes, she did, Andrew. She may possibly have been wrong or confused, but she did say it. She also said the whole family was Muslim, before Obama's handlers got hold of her and said they were all Christian. Then she went on the Haj to Mecca. Odd thing for a Christian to do.
