"The stunning Rasmussen Poll showing the Republican Party finishing a decided third to a hypothetical 'Tea Party' candidate should send shock waves through the GOP. It demonstrates once again that the timid, tepid Republican leadership is leading its party to the brink of disaster. Tens of millions of Americans are looking for strong leadership to stand up to the Obama-Reid-Pelosi leftwing onslaught. Instead, the Republican Party is giving them the same shilly-shally two-step that cost it a majority in Congress, and the Oval Office. Looks like the American people are telling the GOP in no uncertain terms, 'Lead, follow -- or get out of the way.'"
Less than one hour ago, Rasmussen Reports released the following information:
Tea Party Tops GOP on Three-Way Generic Ballot
In a three-way Generic Ballot test, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds Democrats attracting 36% of the vote. The Tea Party candidate picks up 23%, and Republicans finish third at 18%. Another 22% are undecided.
Democrats 36%
Tea Party 23%
Republicans 18%
Not Sure 22%
Among voters not affiliated with either major party, the Tea Party comes out on top...

Should be a good wake-up call for the RNC, and those in Congress. I do hope people aren't serious about splitting the Right with a disastrous 3rd party run however.

Jim, as we know, the rats will just put up a phoney "T-Party" candidate to guarantee their continued re-election.

The Stupid Party should embrace The Tea Party Movement with open arms.
A third party in 2012 is a ticket to 8 years of Obama, which is unthinkable.

I guess we’re the RINOs now, Jim. “Republican” doesn’t mean “conservative” any more.

Yeah, I think this next election will be more about issues than party affiliation. I would like to see how the Dems really break out on healthcare, cap & trade, and party satisfaction to see how cohesive they really are.
To: Jim Robinson
I have noticed a concerted effort lately to point out to Republican leaning and right-leaning voters that “there really is a difference between the 2 parties”, followed by a list of policy differences.
To me, it is the trajectory that doesn’t not change regardless of who is elected — the scope and scale and deficits and intrusions and failures of the federal government grow every day regardless of which party is in power.
Democrat voters vote for the government.
The rest of us don’t have a real alternative anymore, because while the Republicans say they are the party of small government and fiscal responsibility and law and order, they apparently don’t have the spine to actually do anything about it.

All you need to see to know it is not what it used to be is to see Nancy Pelosi and Newt Gingrich sitting together telling us of the evils of AGW.
I’m done with both of those parties.

I didn’t believe that I could think of anything that would be worse than Four More Years of Obama. But Four More Years of Obama trying to run the country on a 36% plurality just may qualify.
To: Jim Robinson
The GOP leadership needs to either embrace the Tea Party principals of small government and strict division of powers, or be destroyed by it. The Federalists were certain that their party would never break up. Then the Wigs were formed to oppose Andrew Jackson. Then the Wigs thought that moderation and compromise was the right way to confront the issue of slavery. Then the Republicans came along. Now the Republicans think that compromise and surrender is the right way confront the socialist agenda of Obama. Adaption or extinction are the only option open to the GOP.

...a perfect example of how to guarantee democrats stay in power. Ideologically, you have 60%+ on the "right" in that poll... but the 36% will win the election.
I hope the circular firing squad gets ironed out before 2010. There are fundamental principles that can be integrated (as our founding documents happened to mention).

“Should be a good wake-up call for the RNC,”
I wouldn’t bet on that. Sam Francis dubbed them “the Stupid Party” for good reason.

"Democrats 36%
Tea Party 23%

Not Sure 22%
Based on those numbers, it looks like "Perot" all over again...democrats win with less than the majority. It would all depend, of course, upon the "undecided" vote, but usually those swing to the democrats as most conservatives are grounded enough in their beliefs that they would KNOW which way they would go.
On the other hand, the "undecided" might be 100% undecided between the GOP and the TeaParty. With that factor unknown, it's hard to say at this time which way it might fall.
,br> Having said all that, I AGREE there need to be something to upset "politics as usual" in this country. But I fear it's going to get really radical before the vast majority is fully awake...and by then it may be too late.
The politicians are already showing us that they are NOT AFRAID of the TeaParties by stepping up the intensity of their obamacare and cap 'n' trade madness. Obviously the Tea Parties and marches haven't been intense enough to get their full attention. Personally I don't know if I want to feel too comfortable with what we've done so far having a big enough effect on 2010...I don't see much fear in their eyes...or maybe they're just drunk with power at the moment.

Toss the gutless, vision-free, big government, suckass, milquetoast leadership of the GOP, and the "Tea Party" need never be formed.
One problem is, where is the next Ronald Reagan? Where is the leadership for the conservative movement going to come from? Where are the billionaire conservatives who will fund the movement?
Right now, we're a mob in search of a mission.
