Snow continues to fall in the foothills and Sierra Nevada, even dusting valley communities, but the weather system will continue moving southeast, leaving the Sacramento region later today.

Places such as Roseville, El Dorado Hills and even Galt got various amounts of snow, while it has piled up at higher elevations.

....

"We actually had some (snow) here at the weather office at Watt and El Camino," said National Weather Service meteorologist Angus Barkhuff. "This is certainly an unusually cold weather system for California. It's not often we get to see some snowflakes here in the Sacramento area."

I wonder how things are going in Copenhagen today? First time I've seen snow on the ground living in Sacramento for 15 years.

The mountains outside of Bakersfield are getting snow.

The forecast is calling for snow down to the 1,500 foot level.

We’re overdue for a heavy snow fall in Kern county.

Cowed by the appearance of snow right down to the shoulders of the highway, commuters along I-680, this morning, eschewed their normal, frenetic pace, and were drifting along at 45-50mph taking in the snowy scenery. For a stretch of about 7 miles, from Walnut Creek to the north end of San Ramon, the hills and homes were blanketed with an inch or two of wintery white; enough to endow the mundanely familiar with all the seasonal wonder of a classic “Currier and Ives.”

Hiway 4 from Copper to Angels Camp is closed because of numerous spin outs and accidents. People up here don’t know how to drive in snow. Keeping CHP VERY busy! Been snowing since 7am or so. Hopefully, it stops soon.

We got a few flakes here in Southern Oregon, that’s not unusual, what is unusual is the highs are 30 degrees and the lows in the low teens, that’s unusual for early December!
