OSAKA (Kyodo) – Suntory Holdings Ltd. acquired a U.S. PepsiCo Inc. unit Friday, company officials said, for an estimated ¥10 billion.

Suntory’s acquisition of Conway-Myrtle Beach Inc., a franchise bottler based in South Carolina, comes as Suntory is holding merger talks with Kirin Holdings Co. that would create one of the world’s largest beverage and food firms.

Suntory, which has the exclusive sales rights to PepsiCo products in Japan, bought the assets and exclusive marketing rights from Conway-Myrtle Beach through a joint venture with PepsiCo.

The firm buys ingredients from PepsiCo and sells the products in South Carolina.

The shrinking domestic market due to a falling birthrate and aging population has pushed Suntory and other food and beverage makers to expand into foreign markets.

Given our current tax laws, it is just a matter of time before all US companies are owned by foreign companies. In the Glowbull economy it is better tax wise to be a non-US company..who just does some of it’s business in the US.

When I was a kid, we put a human tooth into a glass of Pepsi...It rotted the tooth to the core in 2 weeks.

Lemon juice would have accomplished the same result. Ph and total acidity is what counts.

Uh, that would be the likely result, however, last I checked, little kids and many adults don't walk around sucking on a can a lemon juice, like they do Pepsi, several hours per day.

Hey if these people want to drink that nasty acidic syrup, I could care less.

Stick your foot in a bucket of water for two weeks and see what happens. And yet you still drink water.

Maybe next time I go back, I’ll finally be able to find one in a machine.

But if there wasn’t Pepsi (and other sodas) they probably would be drinking lemonade and other acidic fruit drinks.

Mom just get me a Pepsi, please
All I want is a Pepsi, and she wouldn’t give it to me
All I wanted was a Pepsi, just one Pepsi, and she wouldn’t give it to me.
Just a Pepsi.
