Iran criticized a Swiss ban on the construction of minarets on mosques, and warned of rising Islamophobia in Europe, Iranian English-language news agency Press TV reported Saturday.
According to the report, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki held a phone conversation with Swiss counterpart Micheline Calmy-Rey to criticize the ban, which was approved in a referendum on Sunday.
"This move did not befit a country claiming to be a number one advocate of democracy and religious freedom under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights," Mottaki was quoted as saying in the conversation.
"The ban will undoubtedly change Switzerland's image as a leading advocate of human rights," he added.
Mottaki reportedly warned his Swiss counterpart that the ban on building minarets was likely to have far-reaching implications both for the Swiss people and the Muslim minority.

Tough hop.
Would Mottaki be satisfied if minarettes were approved?
Iran...warned of rising Islamophobia in Europe,

Hey Mottaki...
NO CHEEZE FOR YOU!

Any country that limits the spread of Islam is an advocate of democracy and religous freedom since Islam is the enemy of democracy and religious freedom.
Iran is now claiming that the Islamics worship minarets? Is it an architectural style, or is it a holy symbol?
Whereas the EU tries to ban real holy symbols in Italy by requiring that crucifixes be removed from schools.
Seems to me that the Swiss simply made a zoning choice for the whole nation, and an actual attack on religious worship is being done by the EU, but strangely, the strong condemnation is being made against the Swiss.
If the Swiss were unsure of their decision before, they should feel confident in it now. This is not about religious choice, but about others determining how people live. The Swiss have declined to be controlled, as have the Polish with their protections for their schools from EU meddling. One hopes this emboldens Italy to reclaim their own pride and say no to those who would strip away their faith.
Your comment is truth to lies. When they build the Cathedral of St. John Paul II in Mecca than we might see it their way.
Ok baby, let’s see those crosses all over Tehran.
True. Democracy + religious freedom and Islam is like lemonade and baking soda. Add too much of the latter and you get an explosion.
These same countries whining about the minaret ban kill Christians and destroy churches.
Hmmmm. Doesn’t quite sound like an even trade to me.
What you said!
An unfair trade in favor of the Muzzies.

A Holy symbol, it’s in the shape of a nuclear missile.
