Several hundred people rallied in the rain near Manhattan's federal courthouse complex to protest the plan to put major terrorism suspects on trial in New York.
The demonstrators, including 9/11 families and their supporters, gathered in Foley Square, just blocks from the site of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. They say a New York trial could again make the city a terrorism target.

From the terminal we marched up Broadway stopping at several intersections such as Liberty Street to take pictures using the World Trade Center (ground zero) as a backdrop. At Worth Street and Broadway we made a right and proceed to march another block or so to Foley Square. It was about 11 am when we arrived at the stage area and the crowd grew from hundreds to at least 2,000 or so (really 10-20 people according to MSNBCBS).
I set up in front of the stage and I am the guy in the red jacket wearing a Free Republic hat just behind the guy with the yellow jacket and yellow bordered sign.
The rally started promptly at 12pm and ran nonstop until 2:30pm. There were myriad speakers such as victims family members including the sister of one of the pilots on a plane that hit the WTC, the father of Todd (Lets Roll) Beamer, at least one survivor from the world trade center (burned over 90% of her body), first responders, a Marine, parents of a fallen soldier and of course couple of celebrities (of which I learned that Brian Dennehy was a Marine).
The rally was peaceful but you can tell that the crowd was indeed angry and justifiably so. There was also a lot of raw emotion at this rally as we were just blocks away from ground zero and we were standing in front of the court house which is the proposed venue to try the terrorists. Speaker after speaker punctuated their speeches with pointing to the federal court house building indicating that we would have to put up with this travesty for years to come.
These are dark days and they are numbered as everything this current administration wants to do they want it done in a hurry but we can stop this. Mr. Beamer summed it up best when he said that we are facing 9/11, The Sequel. He fired up the crowd with his stop this attack speech referring to the government sponsored, Holder delivered and Obama approved trial of enemy combatants.
I will continue to fight.
Thank you for being there. You speak for thousands of us!
Thank you for being there American Number! And thanks for posting...
The judge should require Holder to be present every day of the trial.
Let us know how it went?
A heartfelt thank-you from Texas!

That was the Staten Island Tea Party you joined up with.
We organized pre-April 15th, and have been growing ever since; when we marched into Foley Square I think we doubled the size of the crowd.

Were you there? I marched behind the guys with the dont tread on me and American flags who were in the front of the group. Once we got to the rally I moved up to the stage front and center.

Thanks. Ill take a look at it as I have not seen anything local (Queens) and would like to learn more. It seems like Im the only one around my neighborhood who knows what is going on in this country and cares enough to get involved. Of course this is liberal NYC so I should not expect much.
Thank you for the report and for being there.
Shame on liberal NYers who couldn’t be bothered to come out on such an important issue.
Thats when I thought to myself that on 9/11, I watched live, along with millions of other people, planes flying into buildings killing people and millions of others watched the same thing on TV. Yet the most we can get to a rally to demand proper justice is an estimated 2,000 or so.
Here we are, 3,007 days from those attacks which killed almost that many people and the subways were full of people going about their day oblivious to what is coming.
Yes, shame on New Yorkers who could but wont get involved. Even more shame on our government for forcing this travesty upon us.
Well, I thank you for remmbering.
9/11/01 was not a good day for me. I knew three people who died that day.
Richard Bruce Van Hine, NYFD, Truck 41, came off shift when the call came in. Jumped on the truck and out the door—forever. They found Bruce a few years later when the ramp down into the pit was removed.
Don and Joan Peterson were on Flight 93 to San Francisco. They were heading out to see their grandchildren there. The ticket attendant said there was an earlier flight than the one they had tickets for, when they got to the airport early, so they jumped at the chance to get there earlier.
Don was a counselor at America’s Keswick in Whiting, NJ, an alcoholic and drug rehab center. He was also on the board of a Christian pregnancy center in Shrewsbury, NJ. All that was found of him and Joan was his well marked Bible, which was given to his son after it was found in the pit at Shanksville.
Thank you for remembering these three fine Christian folks by protesting on their behalf.
Reporting from South Florida today. We stood on our “protest bridge” in the pouring rain in solidarity with our NY brothers and sisters in protest of this trial. We mustered about 100 in total, a disappointment in my eyes, but I know myself and my husband were there for 3 hours. We stood with a woman who lost a daughter on flight 93. We stood with retired NYPD. We stood and watched thousands of motorists talk on their cell phones and stare at us, confused, from their vehicles. We got some honks, we got some thumbs down, and even some who looked away as they drove by. I pray they wake up before its too late. Thank you for going today. We too, will continue to fight.....
God love your soul for going out there!!!!!! I noticed when Obama made his last prime time speech......libs on DU got pissed because he mentioned 9/11. It’s as if they don’t think it exists or want to TOTALLY avoid mentioning it! It made me sick! For gawd’s sake! I can NEVER understand that mentality!
Well these people are just racist bigots. They should be arrested.
-left wing talking points
It was awsome, all speakers were the best!
www.thebravest.com should have pics and video
I am uploading pics, I just got home! :)
But, what a rally
One loser jumped on the stage, I wa too far away to catch him, he was thrown off by one of the firemen, I grabgbed him with others, he was led away, but chased down and arrested. FOX news got the arrest on video, I gave a statement on what happened on the air
Oh, good grief, I saw you several times but didnt know your hat!!
I was the big security guy who told that Pastor to only use the bullhorn between speakers, not during. :)
Red hat, denim jacket, remember me? I stood mostly on your left! :)
There are also more pics at that link.
