Dick Cheney is clearly enjoying private life, settling into his role as the foremost defender of the Bush administration and one of President Obama's fiercest sideline critics. But some people are asking: Is that all you got? As unlikely as it sounds -- and even though Cheney himself describes it as absurd -- a movement is afoot to "draft" Cheney into running for president in 2012. Some conservatives want the former vice president to do more than just beat Obama in the press. They want him to beat the president in the polls, too. Public discontent and anger toward Cheney and the rest of the Bush administration are widely blamed for the success of Democratic candidates in 2006 and 2008. Many Republicans in Congress have taken pains to distance themselves from the Bush years; one of the most withering attacks against John McCain during the 2008 presidential campaign was that he represented a third Bush term. But Christopher Barron, who last week filed papers to launch his "Draft Cheney 2012" group and Web site, says Republicans need Cheney -- that he's the only one with the experience and conservative credentials necessary to lead the party at a critical juncture in its quest for identity and dominance.

I’d vote for him.
For anything.
In other words, then: the working definition of "non-story," pretty much. ;)
I think the world of Dick Cheney, but it’s time to turn the page forward and not look to the past.
No. He has been okay as VP but its time to move on.
Cheney has always been in a supporting role...for George Bush...he was the wise man of the staff...what an asset to our country for a very long time and forever!!
I’m going to caption that one!
I agree. Cheney may be a decent man but he has too many bad connections.
As much as I like Cheney and would vote for him myself if he were to run, I think he serves conservatism better right where he is.
Fred Thompson was “drafted” also last year and since he really didn’t want to run, what good did it do us?
As far as looking back on and distancing from the Bush administration, as many of us warned, this is where it led. We didn’t always have to agree with them, but joining the Dems in blasting him did hurt our cause.
I like the old guy. I think he’d make a good president. I also think that he’s unlikely ever to run, because of health matters.
Just the RNC trying to dilute Sarah’s popularity, as they have been shown to push RINOs... which Sarah is running against (as well as liberals)

Given his great service already given to his country, his age and his health issues, he should be able to retire in peace.
I think the real story here is that the need to look to a man like Dick Cheney exists. There is not a viable R that comes close to him in what he brings to the table in terms of leadership and clear political philosophy.

*sigh* Sorry for the double post.
I love Cheney, but he probably wouldn’t be a good presidential candidate. I don’t think he’s leadership material. He’s one of those people that does a great job being behind the scenes advising leaders on what to do.
Having said that, he would DESTROY 0bama in a debate. It’s VERY difficult to debate someone that has a real understanding and command of the issues at hand. He made John Edwards look like a little girl... Well I know that isn’t hard, but you get the idea.
I’d vote for him but he wouldn’t win under any circumstance. Too many Americans are just too ignorant and brainwashed.

Statement One I concur with, wholeheartedly.
Statement Two, on the other hand... wellllllllll... [::glances down at sig line::]... not so much, obviously. ;)
Pretty much.
But, he can be s strong and wise adviser for Sarah Palin’s campaign if she should run.
No one knows more about the War on Terror than he does.
Dick OR Liz!
