An Edwardsville man was arrested Thursday and charged with raping a 6-year-old girl.
Joseph D. Marcy, 23, of Roosevelt Street, is accused of having sexual intercourse with the girl at his Hilltop Apartments home during the period beginning Jan. 20 until recently, according to arrest papers filed by Edwardsville police. A warrant for Marcy’s arrest was issued Thursday morning.
Police said they captured him later Thursday in his family’s vehicle on Grove Street.
Marcy was charged with felony counts of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault, court records state.
According to the criminal complaint affidavit: A caseworker from Luzerne County Children and Youth Services notified borough police of suspected child abuse on July 7. Officer Michael Lehman investigated.
On July 28, the girl, a kindergartner, told police that Marcy kept two magazines with “bad stuff in them” in a toy box at his home. The girl said Marcy raped her and committed other sexual acts.
The victim reported the abuse to her grandmother, who at the time was caring for her.
According to the affidavit, she told the girl “it was a dream” and to “just tell him to stop and throw the book away.”
On Nov. 23, a second interview was conducted with the girl. Police said in arrest papers the child’s allegations remained consistent throughout the investigation.
The Times Leader does not identify victims of sexual assault.
Marcy was arraigned Thursday evening before District Judge Diana Malast, Plains Township, and taken to the county prison for the lack of $100,000 straight bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 9.

Strange though, that the police first interviewed the girl in July, and then not again until November, and now have finally arrested the guy.
Hopefully, he'll be put in general population with pink underwear and a sign on his back!!!

Grandma didn’t want to deal with it. Didn’t you read what she told the girl? Go to the link and look at the suspect. Maybe Grandma was afraid. Even if that’s so, it doesn’t give Granny a pass. She should be arrested too.
The grandmother needs to go to jail, too.

I'm glad someone had the nerve to ask that here. I've always wondered how on earth an adult male could possibly have sexual intercourse with a small child.
Only two possibilities in my mind:
The poor girl gets ripped apart; which should be prosecuted as attempted murder, not merely rape.
Or, it shows the perp has “arrested development” in some of his parts.
I'm always disappointed when I read a headline like that. Why isn't it: "Suspect Fatally Shot resisting arrest in rape of 6-year-old"? Or perhaps: "Concerned Neighbor cited for Discharging a Firearm within City Limits after fatally Shooting Rapist"?

I won't go into the revolting details, but yes it is possible, although how possible varies by child.
In some parts of Asia, notably India and Thailand, there are a good many working prostitutes at this age. And they're generally smaller than American girls.
It’s imperative that the police question children in a manner that doesn’t put ideas in their heads or lead them to an answer. That can be difficult to do. Otherwise, adults can and have been railroaded.
The ridiculous idea, advanced in the eighties, that children can’t lie about such things have also caused adults to be railroaded.
I want to see good, solid investigations, followed by the same type of prosecutions and then convictions. Then, get a rope.
