...As an early Palin supporter, I cheered for the feisty small-town Alaskan who wasn't part of the political and cultural elite. But when she started talking, revealing that she had no interesting thoughts about national governance, I was reminded of why a political elite matters...

In my opinion, all Dreher's writing can be summarized with "why a (something) elite matters" and why he considers himself a member of the specific elite class.
Just another anti Palin troll. Any puke that thinks a political elite is necessary is not, in and of them selves, necessary.
Besides the Rino label, he needs another label that fits most of the so called males who hate Sarah:
A pusher of the gay agenda as documented by his articles and opeds:

Why do Gays and Gay Agenda pushers hate and fear Sarah so much?
another article full of crap.
I suspect it's because they live in constant mortal dread of this. ;)
Actually, I think he makes a few good points.
I’m as drawn to Palin as most people here, and probably for the same reason: Her unapologetically conservative speaches.
But beyond that, what do we really know about her?
I guess we can argue about what constitutes leadership, and that’s an argument worth having.
But nonetheless, maybe we should be a bit more circumspect in terms of declaring our allegiance on the basis of a few speaches. After all, isn’t that what we deride the left for doing with Obama?
Yep. See for proof the presidency of Andrew Jackson:
Contemporaries interpreted Jacksons resounding victory as a triumph for political democracy. Jacksons supporters called the vote a victory for the farmers and mechanics of the country over the rich and well born. Even Jacksons opponents agreed that the election marked a watershed in the nations political history, signaling the beginning of a new democratic age. One Adams supporter said bluntly, a great revolution has taken place.
“Why do Gays and Gay Agenda pushers hate and fear Sarah so much?”
Because she gets to sleep with Todd, and they don’t?
We “need” an elite who look down on us because they have such interesting...thoughts...about governance
sarc
And most never hired someone (except a nanny or gardener), worried about meeting a payroll or produced tangible goods or services in their effete lives
Give me Joe the Plumber and Todd and Sarah the commercial fishermen anyday
I’m waiting to see if she endorses McCain.
Author lost me right there. If he "thinks" that Gov. Palin has nothing interesting to say about "national governance" he's a fool.
This elitist can't tell the difference between collusion and free enterprise and calls Palin a fool because she can!
To paraphrase: There's no fool like a pompous fool.
Thankfully, no one here is doing that.
Bring yourself up to speed.
Cause she makes them Hoooorrney!
I asked: “Why do Gays and Gay Agenda pushers hate and fear Sarah so much?
Clioman answered: “Because she gets to sleep with Todd, and they dont?”
Thanks, Clioman, now we know why all the gays hate Sarah. They are jealous.
I view Palin’s book as a foundation of her next book or series of speeches that will lay out policy thoughts.
If this book is a best a seller then the next one or the series of policy thoughts should prove interesting while garnering sales and attention that otherwise wouldn’t take place.
I guess we can argue about what constitutes leadership, and thats an argument worth having.
Mayor, Governor, mother, intelligent, honest, etc as compared to communist Chicago street thug.
