When women talk about Palin, points out Lisa Belkin, its not just politics, its personal. No kidding. And that at least partially explains the fervor of Palin fans like cousins Nicole Colter and Stephanie Jefferson who drove 4-1/2 hours (Colter) or flew six hours (Jefferson) to Springfield, Mo., to get Palin to autograph their copies of Going Rogue and then to hear her speak at the College of the Ozarks.
But Belkin, who published a piece called Why Women Cant Let Sarah Palin Go in The New York Times, sees at least as much animosity as admiration in the female response to Palin. She believes that hardworking, educated women respond to Sarah Palin the way they did to the head cheerleader in high school. (Even though in fact Palin was not a cheerleader but the captain of her high_school basketball team.)
Pretty and popular, with no apparent interest in studying, shes the one who industrious girls were tacitly promised would not succeed in the real world, writes Belkin.Whether we voted for Hillary or not, we werent about to let Palin breeze in, with her sexy librarian hair and her peekaboo-toed shoes, conforming to every winking, air-brained stereotype, and sashay to the front of the line.
And yet, she admits, Which is not to say we didnt like her for a moment. We were intrigued by this woman who could govern a state and raise five children and field-dress a moose; who seemed to do what the rest of us could not manage to have it all.
Eilene Zimmerman, writing for True/Slant, says she sees an even more basic reason for women (or men) to dismiss Palin: [S]hes simply not smart. And yet Zimmerman has trouble reconciling that perception with this fact: Shes sold a million books in two weeks.(continued)

Why do you accuse everyone with tradtional values of being a hater?
Where are the rest of her kids?
I read the book and liked it very much. Sarah Palin is a wonderful American woman. I think Todd sounds like an amazing man too. What a rock!
Maybe a lot of women dislike Palin because she is pretty and they like to think the pretty girls are dumb. They think, “Well, I’m not as pretty as her, but I’m much smarter!” A lot of the elite women like to think their intelligence and breeding makes them better than Palin.
Maybe a lot of women dislike her because they are already liberals, are divorced women who are bitter, or have had abortions. Sarah Palin’s life is a testament to working hard, being true to your family and your God, and making good, healthy choices. A lot of women don’t do those things and Palin’s life is an unwelcome dose of reality. The message to them is, “I could have had it all like Sarah Palin but I made poor choices.” They will avoid that bitter pill at all costs.
Only women who like themselves like Sarah Palin. Those with a lot of regrets resent her. She’ll have to make all those insecure women out there feel she can understand and relate to them and their messy lives.
Maybe, just maybe some day, your mom will admit defeat. My mother on the other hand, never. She didn’t want one of my other siblings to tell me that she had spied, three times she drove down there and went inside. She thought that I would make fun of her, which of course I did.
Sarah truly jolted Biden in their debate. He was enamored and that was so evident. Took him longer than most men to regain his footing, and this in full view of the audiance. I just roared!
Eilene Zimmerman is a Jewish atheist in San Diego who is a progressive fanatic and Christian basher.
Nuff said.
Her calling Palin not smart is exactly how the very same folks described Magnus 30 years ago.
I find this article particularly interesting to me. My family moved to Wasilla in the summer of 77. I grew up with her and so many of who she talks about in her book. Fun reading I must say, I had forgotten much of what she talks about.
The reason this is interesting is that last summer we moved “outside” and a couple months later Sarah was picked as the VP nominee. A lot of people in town wanted to know what we thought of her. I was at the vets office and a woman was just leaving when she saw the license plate on the car. She turned around with a big smile and said “OMG you are from the state that is giving us Sarah Palin” I said that I was from the town that was giving them Sarah. We spent the next hour standing at the counter of the vets talking about how exciting this was and how wonderful we thought it was that this was all happening.
As we were talking she asked some question about what Sarah was like personally. I said “you know that girl in high school that is smart and pretty and has a bunch of friends and is involved in sports and involved in the school and they seem so PERFECT. And you really want to hate them because they SEEM to have everything and at first glance you think they are stuck up and snobby.” She is looking at me wondering where exactly I was going with this after praising her it seemed like I was going to add a but. I said “while she may look that way at first glance she isn’t at all, she is nice, genuinely nice, and sincere, not a fake bone in her body and if you were talking to her she cared about what you were saying.”
I can see where this writer came from, she is only looking at the first blush and not bothering to see past it.
That says it all...when they say she's not smart, they mean she's not an intellectual...and they do not mean the same thing.
How can you be a Jewish Atheist? You are either Jewish, or an Atheist. You can’t be both.
As for me, I subscribe to the theory that there is no such thing as an Atheist on a crashing Airplane.
But that’s just me...
And you fail to notice that Sarah drew the crowds NOT on McCain's say-so, but by the reaction to her GOP convention speech and her life story: despite an "all-hands-on-deck" effort to destroy her life and reputation by the drive-by media.
And we all know her best seller is because the US public is *dying* to hear from the first second unsuccessful female candidate for Vice President.
Surely you remember the book of Geraldine Ferraro hitting the NYT Best Seller List, and her triumphant book tour?
/crickets>
Nice try, though.
Sarah Palin’s doing and being what no man in the Republican Party has the guts to be or do.
If the men won’t plough the women have to do it, and care for the kids as best they can.
Whoops! I guess we just found out *your* IQ, Mr. Biden. ;-)
(Speaking of which, what does this say of "The One" that he sounds like Porky Pig without a teleprompter?)
Cheers!
It says he's an idiot. Other than Bush, he's the poorest extemporaneous speaker we have since I've been alive - and I've been alive for eleven. He rambles, he stammers and at times he's downright incoherent. That press conference - which received almost ZERO media coverage - that he gave in Japan several weeks ago was an embarrassment. As bad as anything GWB delivered.
Jewish is an identity. Two fairly distinct ethnic groups with some outliers like Falashas thrown in for good measure. Most Jews are born not converted, they sure don’t proselytize. Whether they practice is up to them. Israel doesn’t ask Jews who seek homeland if they go to temple given most Israelis don’t do much temple themselves.
Most Jews I know are self described atheists or agnostics....they may do holy days like many born Christians do trees and gifts and egg nog but aren’t very religious.
Don’t believe me...see what this religious Jew on his blog says:

You can argue that a Jew who is an atheist, nontheist or agnostic is therefore not Jewish anymore but that argument will sure get plenty of detractors and would eliminate many Jews from being Jewish from birth. I just don’t see that as logical especially is they still view themselves and identify as Jewish like most Jewish atheists I know do.

We will never know. However, finding success in the Senate - especially National success - requires making frequent media stops on the morning news shows, and answering lengthy and detailed policy questions, something that Palin hasn't demonstrated an appetite for, or excellence in. "Surely you remember the book of Geraldine Ferraro hitting the NYT Best Seller List, and her triumphant book tour?"
I don't. But have you ever heard the term "non sequitor"? I'm not sure what Ferraro has to do with either Palin or Hilary Clinton, other than she's also a woman who aspired to national office, which is where all similarity stops. You may not be old enough to remember, but Ferraro was fairly well known - from one of the most densely populated districts in the country - before being picked by Mondale. She was a significant player in political circles, especially for women's issues.
Palin and Hilary have one other thing in common - incredibly high negatives. Sure, they have a core group of people who love them - to the point of idolizing them. But, they have an almost equal number of people who loathe them. This is precisely why Hilary couldn't win her own nomination, and is why I suspect neither will ever be President. Although, as a much younger woman, I suppose time is on Palin's side, and not Clinton's.
Post hoc, ergo propter hoc...
To get into the Senate in AK would've been easy.
After that, she could've laid low for a few years while learning the ropes, THEN make a move.
The mention of Ferraro was to point out that Sarah has had continuing fame and success after the McCain campaign lost.
As evidenced by the book sales and tour.
If her attraction had been solely due to McCain, or to "fluke" status, her book would've fizzled.
Palin's negatives are due to a deliberate effort at sabotage by a coalition of leftists, RINOs, and political-hack tools of the above.
She'll outlast them. Try reading her book and you'll see why.
Cheers!
Sure, those horrible men...
Wake up! It’s the Garden of Eden all over again.
I stand corrected, but I will still stick to my theory that there is no such thing as an Atheist on a crashing Airplane.
I’m a stay at home mom who homeschooled from kindergarten through high school.
I’m a traditional values person, but I know that God sometimes works in mysterious ways. When the men won’t do as they should, God will raise up a woman. Just as in the time of the Judges of Israel, He made Deborah a judge.
So, I don’t look down upon traditional values people who send their kids to school and tell them I would never vote for them because they allow their kids be indoctrinated. As long as they support traditional values, I support them. It is between them and God to decide which way is best for their family.
I’m as conservative and traditional as anyone else, but I just don’t understand the confused minds I’ve been seeing from a few people — male and female.
Ok.. I read Sarah’s book because she is just like me. It helps that my favorite woman of The Bible is Esther who is selected because of her beauty by man, but her wisdom & faithfulness by God. It can be hard to be attractive, few real friends, difficulty getting promotions, etc. She loves God, Family & Country.
When the Sanhedrin were selected, the usual group was picked, then God chose some outside the tent. Sarah is outside the tent. I was reading this portion of the OT when Sarah was picked for VP. I said I would NEVER vote for a woman president, but she has changed my mind. Heck, nothing else is working.
Not horrible, just glaringly ABSENT.
Are you saying you’d rather be idealogically pure than defend your gates against the encroaching hordes of socialist zombies?
