TIFTON Sonnys Real Pit Bar-B-Q on U.S. Highway 82 West is now The Smokehouse Restaurant because local franchise owner Bill Davis refused to sell beer, wine or liquor in the family restaurant. Also, the Sonnys corporation didnt believe it was appropriate for employees there to wear I Pledge...I Pray T-shirts at work.

Sued for what? Theoretically, you can be sued for displaying an American flag. So is Sonny’s going to take down all the flags? Or take pork out of their restaurants to avoid being sued by Muslims?
It’s an excuse to justify their bigotry.
If anyone has stock in Sonny’s, I think I would sell it now. There are several Sonny’s in my area, and offering alcohol, especially anything stronger than beer just wouldn’t play here in the deep, deep South.
Sonny’s has always been a family BBQ resturant with a fantastic salad bar. I can’t see how cocktails with a BBQ sandwich and fries go together.
Depends. Sonny's has a location in Panama City Beach. Believe me, all booze plays very well there. A Patron margarita on the rocks with extra salt along with some pulled pork is a wonderful thing.
I think the most noteworthy thing about this is that both parties seemed to have handled this disagreement like adults. It’s sad that no longer seems to be the rule.
They aren’t anti-religion, they’re anti taking sides under their logo, from the article: Politics and Religion: Where we realize you are individual business owners with your own view on politics and religion, the Sonnys brand must remain non-partisan.
Most companies like the tread the neutral ground.
Mint juleps go well with southern food, and culture.
Thank God I’m southern reformed Presbyterian. I can enjoy good drink and good food without guilt!
Win for Davis....loser for Sonny’s
We can debate all the “Rights” issues....but on a business standpoint....Mr Davis scores the win. Sonny’s lost a good franchise, and one that would still make money by not selling booze.
Like most restaurant chains, Sonny’s is slipping. People do not eat at the barbecue places like they used to (at least outside the traditional South).
And, what really got my attention....is that a barbecue restaurant would be upset with people wearing religious clothing and US flags.
I think Maurice in South Carolina is probably laughing his a** off about that one ;-)
Someone should tell Sonny’s that, barbecue establishments tend to not be on the list of places to go to with Liberal, meat-hating, Global Warmists. Sonny’s will be ticking off their customers in other locations once word gets out about the anti-religion, anti-temperance stand.
It is a bad business move by Sonny’s. I predict in a few years they will be out of business.
They take sides all the time. There is a difference between being neutral and suppressing.
What sides are Sonny’s taking? “No displays of religion” which is their rule is neutral, not suppressing.
With B-B-Q?
C'mon.
The side against religion.
It’s not against religion, it’s against displays of religion under their logo with their implied consent. And there’s nothing wrong with that, there’s nothing wrong with saying they’re a BBQ company not a religion company so don’t sell religion trinkets in stores with their logo. That’s not anti-religion, it’s neutral.
Neutral would be allowing any religion. Anti-religion is banning religion.
Sorry but you’re wrong. Neutral is saying understanding they’re not a religion company and no religion should be associated with their logo.
It’s a truly painfully simple concept that 99% of all retail businesses in history have understood, do not mix employee’s religion and company’s logo. That’s neutral now, that was neutral 50 years ago, 100 years ago and will continue to be neutral for the rest of recorded retail history.
Yep!
Depends. Sonny's has a location in Panama City Beach. Believe me, all booze plays very well there. A Patron margarita on the rocks with extra salt along with some pulled pork is a wonderful thing.
Panama City is outside of the Bible Belt, even though it is in the South.
Did I say ONE thing about anyone, anyone being ‘anti Christian’ or ‘sinners’? NO.
You have every right to disagree with me. I could care less.
Freddd, I keyed off this comment of yours.
“Good for Davis! Jesus may not meet Sonnys standards, but clearly He meets Davis standards!”
I’m not trying to be argumentative with you here, merely having an exchange of thoughts on the subject.
It seemed to me that your comment in a round about way made it sound like Sonny’s was making a value judgment on Jesus here. I think you can be a Christian and not want to see your establishment look something akin to a church meeting hall. That’s all.
I don’t think Sonny’s or this guy either one are being the bad person here. This difference of opinion came up, and the franchisee is having a hard time of it. I don’t particularly like to see it, but I can understand it. That’s all.
Take care bud. No hard feelings here at all.
Does Sonny's sell pork products?
