Leave it to Dick Cheney to teach Tareq Salahi a thing or two about how to crash a big event.
On the eve of Barack Obama's most important address as president, Cheney managed to (temporarily) grab the spotlight when he told Politico that the commander in chief was weak and letting politics affect his military decisions....
Just why the ex-VP keeps popping off remains full-time fodder for the media, but Cheney's looking more partisan with each headline that he makes. James Fallows is spot on when he notes the contrast with President George W. Bush, who has "maintained a dignified distance from public controversies and let the new team have its chance...."
I wonder how many of his former supporters would agree. The anger on the right seems deeper than anything expressed during the Clinton era. The timing was accidental but the former vice president's latest outburst coincided with a remarkable cri de coeur by Charles Johnson, the creator of the once conservative blog Little Green Footballs why he's parting with the right wing. Of course, when Johnson wrote that "the American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff," he had no way of knowing that Cheney was about to put his pacemaker into overdrive and let loose with another of the periodic salvos he's fired at the Obama administration since leaving the White House.
Johnson had to know he was going to spark a firestorm by breaching the right's narrative of the history of the last eight years. Conservatives, who are quick to complain about political correctness, turn out to be remarkably PC when it comes to their own sacred cows....

Never seen an article like this about execrable ex-president carter.
Obomas speech proved his point. Cheney was right (again).
“Here's a guy without much experience, who campaigned against much of what we put in place ... and who now travels around the world apologizing,” Cheney said. “I think our adversaries — especially when that's preceded by a deep bow ... — see that as a sign of weakness.”
...
“It is December, and in less than a year Cheney now represents a good deal of mainstream thinking, both in the Beltway and among ordinary Americans. Thats how far weve come. Meanwhile, Obama is increasingly seen as ideologically misguided and temperamentally at a loss to deal with the plethora of international challenges, which will only increase as a worldwide audience takes in his haphazard performance.”
I don't know whether Cheney could have have put it any better.
Me neither.
To think this is coming from a CBS NEWS BLOG is mindbogglingly! Perhaps the tide is turning AGAINST the evil one? Obama reminds me of Ahab and Michele as Jezebel .... only MORE EVIL.
Charles Johnson from Little Green Footballs is the Levi Johnston of bloggers.
Really bugs them when our side uses a bit of their own tactics against them! Every word that comes out of their lying mouths drips with partisanship. It's their weapon of choice.
Cheney is right. Any “leader” who doesn’t have the GUTS or the ONIONS to take the fight to the terrorist who slaughtered 3000 Americans is weak or worse, sympathetic to the “Muslim Cause”.
Another steve-b CBS report including LGF idiots....wtg steve bee...we know now that you are big with teh crazy, Charlie Loony Johnson. It’s becoming clearer, keep posting.
Bush is playing it smart. Because he's not in the news, the left can't successfully use him as their punching bag anymore. Blaming Bush for everything is getting boring.
If Bush were to come out swinging, the left would once again have their boogie man to rally their troops. As it stands, they have to use a VP as Obomas boogie man, and it looks petty.
Bush needs to get off his dam high horse and SPEAK OUT.
If he loves this country, NOW is the time to SHOW IT.
Instead Bush leaves it up to Cheney, who often literally GASPS for air. Cheney is a true patriot. Sure he has put his foot in his mouth at times, but I KNOW he LOVES his country. He's the kind of guy that will have an interview and let it all hang out and use his last breathe to put things RIGHT. Kudos to Cheney.
BUSH, SPEAK OUT! You have kids ... don't you want them to grow up in a FREE COUNTRY? Or are you content to go along with turning into an Argentina and eventually a Zimbabwe? What is it? Is your overly righteous armor and pride so important? Bush, SPEAK UP! Carter sure doesn't hesitate to help DESTROY our country? Bush, why are YOU, MIA?
Boy, people sure forget their history. DEMS trashed Bush every day of his Presidency. The media trashed Bush every day of his Presidency.....and now they are upset that Cheney speaks up about Obama’s decisions.
Don't give creedence to a-holes like Algore or Carter. That only gives the left a reason to justify the nonsense spewing out of the mouths of those two egg heads.
Vice Presidents, far more than Presidents, are ‘Party Men’. Presidents have to get elected; VP’s really don’t figure in that equation. Calling Cheyney ‘partisan’ is no more of a revelation than describing Al Gore, or Walter Mondale the same way. It’s technically accurate, and it’s not News.
You wind up asking these questions:
1. Who is Charles Cooper?
2. Who is Charles Johnson?
3. Who is Jennifer Rubin?
If I didn't read the article, I would have guessed that the first two were suspects in a violent crime and the third was there defense attorney.
My thoughts as well!
What were you telling Algore and Carter when they were speaking out against President Bush every day?
"STFU" or "Go enjoy your retirement"?
Problem is the Obama team keeps on dropping the ball, running the WRONG way for the touchdown and repeatedly misses the field goal.
On September 8, 2004, Dan Rather cited exclusive information, including documents to justify major CBS Evening News and 60 Minutes stories alleging that George W. Bush shirked his duties when he was in the Texas Air National Guard in the 1960s and 1970s. Within a few hours of those documents being posted on CBS Newss Web site, however, typography experts voiced skepticism that the documents had actually originated with their alleged author and Bushs former commanding officer, the late Lt. Colonel Jerry Killian. As the evidence mounted, Rather stubbornly clung to the idea that his story was bulletproof, and he derided critics as partisans and Internet rumormongers. When he apologized on September 20, Rather would not concede that the documents were forgeries, only that he and CBS could no longer vouch for their authenticity.
CBS Disregarded Experts, Challenged Laura Bush: ABCs Brian Ross reported on the September 14 World News Tonight that two experts hired by CBS News say the network ignored concerns they raised prior to the broadcast about the disputed National Guard records. But over on CBS, reporter John Roberts wondered why President Bush wasnt taking those memos seriously: The President has yet to weigh in on new documents about his National Guard record made public last week by 60 Minutes. Roberts also chastised First Lady Laura Bush for doubting CBSs memos were authentic: Laura Bush offered no evidence to back up her claim, and CBS News continues to stand by its reporting.
Sticking By His Smear: On September 10, Dan Rather responded to charges the memos he cited as proving Bushs dereliction were forged, telling his CBS Evening News audience that the memos were genuine and attacking any doubters as partisan rumor-mongers. Today, on the Internet and elsewhere, some people, including many who are partisan political operatives, concentrated not on the key questions of the overall story, but on the documents that were part of the support of the story, Rather castigated. But his lame defense ignored key challenges to the documents typography and content, and the doubts voiced by the widow and son of the supposed author, the late Lt. Col. Jerry Killian. Instead, Rather chose to repeat his indictment of President Bushs National Guard service. Rather arrogantly concluded: If any definitive evidence to the contrary of our story is found, we will report it. So far there is none. (CyberAlert, September 11, 2004)
Payback is coming CBS, one day soon.
