Cop-Killer???
A little bit of light needs to be shed on a funny little thing called FACTS as it pertains to the issues surrounding the suspected cop-killer Maurice Clemmons. Shamefully prominent voices in the Conservative punditocracy (mostly ones who supported Romney in the last go-round) have come out attempting to link Gov. Mike Huckabee to the killings in Seattle that took the lives of four police officers.
Most of these spared little thought for the families, and jumped right into the band-wagon in denouncing Huck as soft on crime, and a friend to criminals, or a bleeding heart Christian. (Funny how the mainstream always accuses Christians of not having a heart.)
All that being said, these Conservative pundits are wrong on the material substance in linking the two and if they continue to do so it says more about their own character than that of the former Governor.
Yes Gov. Huckabee commuted a 100+ year sentence for a person who was a minor when he committed a series of burglaries. He commuted it all the way down to 40 years.
But let’s get some facts straight:
1. That commutation did not pardon, declare innocent or acquit Clemmons of his wrong doing.
2. Clemmons remained on parole following his commutation and when he violated that parole he was brought in for those crimes. (At this point in time, Huckabee’s involvement with Clemmons was over.)
3. It was prosecutorial malfeasance that THEN allowed Clemmons to walk free, NOT a Huckabee commutation.
4. Sometime after that incident Clemmons moves to Washington State, and by all signs possible, lives the life of a model citizen.
5. After that 5-6 year stretch of time Clemmons begins to have skirmishes with Washington State authorities.
6. In Washington State there is a 3 strike law. Which means that when accumulating serious offenses in that state, the third time will incur automatic sentencing that can not be altered.
7. The child-rape Clemmons was most recently charged with was considered his 3rd strike IN WASHINGTON.
Even Bill Clinton denied Clemmons' pardon.
Kevin McCullough has a lot of nerve to write this article FWIW. Blaming the deaths of 4 cops on Mitt Romney or his supporters is the the epitome of stupid too. Neither he nor they had anything to do with the commutation of that monsters sentence. I ain’t a big Romney supporter. I think he’s a weasel too. I’ll take this article with a large grain of salt, and come to the conclusion Kevin McCullough is a Huck-a-phony supporter.
This op-ed is a complete whitewash. Much like the Factor interview the other night. What I think is laughable is the author goes through the motions to blame all this on Mitt Romney and his core of supporters. I ain’t one and I still think it’s stupid.
After Willie Horton was pardoned by Mike Dukakis in Massachusetts, Horton went on to commit his subsequent crimes in Maryland. But the bottom line is that it was Mike Dukakis who set him free. In fact, I think it is even more egregious that Clemmons went to a different state to commit his crimes. The people of Washington State did not deserve to suffer for the poor decision of Gov. Huckabee any more than the Maryland citizens should not have had to suffer for the poor decision of Gov. Dukakis up in Massachusettes.
That’s the point, isn’t it? This case, like Willy Horton with Dukakis, simply reinforces a weakness he was already perceived to have—otherwise it wouldn’t have such power and resonance. Further, Huck’s sanctimony on this issue only feeds into a larger perception of his moral preening getting in the way of making ‘commonsense conservative’ choices when presented with hard facts.
Only desperation to spin Huckabee's culpability would lead one to write the above.
The bigger problem for Huck is, he had an opportunity to come clean and he essentially blew it by blaming everyone else involved.
His original sentence made him ineligible for parole for a VERY long time.
Huck started the ball rolling.

I have never particularly liked Huckabee, but the way some people (Romney supporters, in their majority, I understand) are turning every thread on this into a hate-Huckabee festival is ridiculous.
He was but one of many factors and has not had any involvement with this for almost a decade. In the meanwhile, we’re completely ignoring the WA judge who let this guy out on bail just a couple of months ago, and ignoring the whole lousy parole system in two states that for years never supervised him or did its job (which would have been to return him to jail for the rest of his sentence).
In fact, I read that one of the conditions of his second parole in AR was that he leave the state and go to WA, where he had family. So everybody was essentially passing him around and now they all want to scream that it wasn’t their fault and point their fingers at an unpopular political figure, which they are being assisted in doing by the sufferers of Huckabee Derangement Syndrome on this board.
Blaming Romney supporters isn’t helping either. That’s like saying Mitt Romney and his core of supporters are responsible for that monster’s reign of terror. Clemmons’ life of crime didn’t just start 6 weeks ago.
Any way you want to slice it, Huck’s toast.
Like Clemmons, this nation is under a commutation. However, unlike Huckabee, God is in complete control and he will deliver complete and irrevocable justice at the instant that he decides that our iniquity is full.

I don’t know why I ended up on this ping list. I didn’t like Huckster, The Snake Oil Salesman, before this latest incident. Recent events have not altered my opinion of the “other” man from Hope, Arkansas one bit.
Yeah, SOMEONE ELSE would have came along and let him out EVEN IF the Huckster would have left this poor misunderstood cheerleader in there to serve out his life sentence!
Romney the RINO has nothing to do with it. You folks who are defending and excusing the Huckster for making it possible for this POS murderer to be released are just as pathetic as Huckabee.
There is an excellent article in the American Spectator concerning Huckabee and his pardoning over 1,000 hardened criminals during his tenure as Governor. Call me a Huck hater all you want but the FACT remains he is unfit for higher office. I will continue to email friends and family about Huckabee to make sure they know that his moral compass is severely broken. And I will encourage those same friends and family to forward the information to their friends.
Too many of you guys confound RINO with "country club Republican".
A RINO is usually a Democrat or (so-called) Independent in a heavily Democrat voting state or electoral district where the average Republican or Conservative wouldn't have a realistic chance of winning.
The trick is to find a disaffected Democrat willing to run as a Republican against an entrenched, and usually corrupt, Democrat machine incumbent.
Then, when the RINO wins he or she is expected to caucus with the Republicans in the legislature for the purpose of controlling the legislative agenda. They may well end up voting against bills sponsored by the Republicans, but those bills would usually have not gotten out of committee without the RINO vote to control the legislative body.
Sometimes one of them will advance to Govenor, Lt Governor or Attorney General/Secretary of State.
Once out of office they are no longer RINOs ~ just former whatevers.
Countryclubbers, on the other hand, take part in party management.
Joe Conason, a Republican hater from way back ~ a man whose Democrat slime is so pernicious you should not allow him to stand on the sidewalk in front of your home ~ says The Huck pardoned more folks in the last 40 years than any other Governor in that period.
Which is true, but that's mostly because of the length of his term.
It's a regular practice in Arkansas to sell pardons ~ a practice of which The Huck is singularly not accused.
Criticism is now hatred? How very progressive. I don’t hate Huck, he is a nice enough fellow, but he made a fatal error with all these commutations and pardons.
A nice guy who wants to be liked by all is dangerous.
