I think we should be taking the possibility of a Dick Cheney bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 more seriously, for a run would be good for the Republicans and good for the country. (The sound you just heard in the background was liberal readers spitting out their lattes.)
Why? Because Cheney is a man of conviction, has a record on which he can be judged, and whatever the result, there could be no ambiguity about the will of the people. The best way to settle arguments is by having what we used to call full and frank exchanges about the issues, and then voting. A contest between Dick Cheney and Barack Obama would offer us a bracing referendum on competing visions.
One of the problems with governance since the election of Bill Clinton has been the resolute refusal of the opposition party (the GOP from 1993 to 2001, the Democrats from 2001 to 2009, and now the GOP again in the Obama years) to concede that the president, by virtue of his victory, has a mandate to take the country in a given direction.
A Cheney victory would mean that America preferred a vigorous unilateralism to President Obama's unapologetic multilateralism, and vice versa
No one foresaw Cheney's reemergence as a force in the politics of the 21st century until it happened. So perhaps the pattern is set, a pattern of insistent denial of interestuntil it turns out that, hey, he is interested.
Cheney's memoirs are due to be publishedand thus due to be promotedin the spring of 2011, not long before the caucuses and primaries begin. I'll bet you that the Barnes & Noble in Des Moines (there's a big one at The Shoppes at Three Fountains) is on the book tour

Dick Cheney should not run for President. I like him right where he is. He is free to say what he wants about the current TURD in the White House. He is providing an invaluable service to this nation by exposing Osbama as the empty suit he really is.
Why: so we can have 4 more years of Obama. I am sure News Week really wants Cheney as President.

Palin/ Cheney 2012 (Liz?)
The problem is his heart. As much as I admire the man’s politics (so far as I know them, anyway), his health will kill any hopes for office for the people who consider such things important.
And maybe Joe Lieberman can run as an Independent, splitting the lib-tard vote, and handing the presidency to Cheney.
Cheney is the one person who can draw more fire than Sarah, and it would be fun, but it isn’t going to happen. His heart doesn’t need the aggravation.
How about Obama's "apologetic to the point of groveling at the feet of other nations" multilateralism.
I’m not so sure Obama would win. The biggest drawback to a Cheney run is his heart condition which would be flayed constantly in the press. Cheney would rip Obam to shreds in debate though. Anyone who has ever watched Cheney in action should either be awed (conservatives) or terrified (liberals).
LOL! Cheney in 2012!
LOL! That’s great. Where did you get it?
with Huckabee gone, the Media has to annoint a new GOP nominee.
Never happen if only for health reasons, but wouldn’t a real debate between Cheney and Soetoro the Kenyan be an awesome pay-per-view event.
This failure has left a vaccuum in this nation's political discourse.
Sadly, Dubya followed in his father's footsteps, by fading away without a fight.
No. Good Lord, no. And I’m one of his biggest fans. The heart trouble alone would be a legitimate reason to vote against him.
