Oslo (dpa) -- US President Barack Obama will likely spend two nights in Oslo next week where he is to receive his Nobel Peace Prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee said Tuesday.

"What can be confirm today is that that he will arrive on Wednesday the 9th, and he will arrive 'late evening' it is said," Geir Lundestad, secretary of the committee, told broadcaster NRK.

Obama is due on December 10 to receive his Nobel Peace Prize. He was cited by the five-member Norwegian Nobel Committee for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples."

The day before the award ceremony, Obama is scheduled to visit the Danish capital of Copenhagen, where the United Nations climate change conference takes place from December 7-18.

In Oslo, Obama's programme includes the award ceremony in Oslo City Hall, a banquet in his honour, a reception at the royal palace with King Harald and Queen Sonja, and a meeting with Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg.

The Norwegian government on Friday approved extra funds for security measures when the US president visits Oslo.

The peace prize is one of the awards endowed by Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel, the inventor of dynamite.

Can we give him to Norway forever? I’d rather trade him for a Danish cartoonist or two and a pound of Danish cheese ... or even just the pound of cheese ...but in the interests of harmony with the Europeans who love our socialist tyrant, I’m willing to give him away permanently for free.

No right to accept money from these "Dem" peace folks. Let's call it what it is...a bribe...No matter what he does with it...it's still a payoff.

So he'll use it to pay off what group?? Planned Parenthood?? Teachers Unions??

http://www.ipcc.ch/organization/organization_history.htm

“The IPCC is 21 years old, and experienced very important outcomes. Its latest major report, “Climate Change 2007”, clearly brought to the attention of the world the scientific understanding of the present changes in our climate and lead the organization to be honored with the Nobel Peace Prize at the end of that same year. “

Doesn't this guy have a fairly important day job?

WTF? Our President should use his time to solve the economic problem, create jobs, win the Afghan War. Not hobnob and dither with the Leftist Groupies of the world.

This is shaping up like the latest world tour from U2 or the Rolling Stones.

He should take a soldier from each of the services to accept the prize on his behalf.

Every ounce of peace brought on to this world by the United States of America has come from the blood, sweat and tears of America’s military personal. Their sacrifices have resulted in hundreds of millions living in peace and freedom, who would otherwise be living in fear and despair.
