Washington (CNN) - The Washington Post survey released Monday indicates that Republicans say that Sarah Palin, more than any other leader, best reflects the core values of the party.

According to the poll, 18 percent of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say the former Alaska governor best reflects core GOP values. In second place, 5 points back, is Sen. John McCain of Arizona, last year's Republican presidential nominee, followed by former Arkansas governor and 2008 presidential candidate Mike Huckabee at 7 percent, former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate Mitt Romney at 6 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 4 percent and conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh at 2 percent. Other current Republican leaders were picked by 1 percent or less of those questioned in the poll.

Palin also tops the list of potential 2012 Republican presidential hopefuls. According to the poll, 17 percent of Republican voters say they'd back last year's GOP vice presidential nominee if their state's caucus or primary were being held today, with Huckabee at 10 percent, Romney at 9 percent and McCain with 2 percent support. Huckabee, Palin and Romney have topped most national surveys of the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.

The Washington Post telephone poll of 804 Republicans and GOP-leaning independents was conducted November 19-23. The survey's sampling error is plus or minus 4 percentage points

I am worried enough for both of us, Bob. Not one name has surfaced that has given me any hope. I am waiting...not patiently. I know there is alot of time. I have worked enough campaigns to know so much can happen between now and the election. I have no idea why I am so antsy about this one.

“So, you’re an atheist and are sneering at the faithful?”

No. Just the armeggedon hopefuls who base their political vote and aspirations around it.

Huck is toast politically. With his latest commuted felon now killing four police officers, he’s dead in politics.

"No. Just the armeggedon hopefuls who base their political vote and aspirations around it."

A most bizzare comment. - Who would they be?

Sarah Palin, and the majority of those that seek her candidacy are well aware that the Church will never see "Armageddon."

"If Palin, Huckabee or Romney are all we have then we are in deep trouble"

Sarah Palin is the best sign to come along that we may not be in trouble, after all.

And that’s the problem—the GOP has no stinkin core values anymore—and they wonder why people aren’t sending them oodles of money.

You mean those that will only vote for an evangelical, end of times rapture devotee?

Well, it's certainly not the very vocal minority of small minded bigots, who would not vote for a candidate with such religious beliefs.

What next, you ruling out Romney just because he's Mormon?

Romney's problem is that he hasn't been Mormon enough in the past. He'd have pretty decent SoCon credibility, if he took his religion half as seriously as he takes his own self-advancement.

Rommney’s healthdeath stuff will prevent him from a serious run in the future. America is watching, they know Rommney’s record.

That's a fact. - He apparently keeps his religion in his T garments.

I’m not so sure Huckabee is finished in politics. He appeals to a sizable demographic in GOP primaries - elderly evangelicals. This demographic will vote for Huckabee soley because he is a Baptist minister. Sort of like Mormon support for Romney. As long as Identity Politics are being practiced, Romney and Huckabee shall be contenders in the 2012 primary.

Also being the host of a Fox News program, the news channel will go easy on the Huckster. Tonight, Bill O’Reilly expressed outrage at the judges, not Huckabee. Fox News will protect Huckabee like MSNBC protects Obama.

But using the information that is already known about Huck going soft on criminals will not play well to the conservative base.

Knowing that he released an early felon, with a history of priors, and having that felon murder four police officers in cold blood, will be too much for him to overcome.

It will be his Willie Horton, but this time the results are more dire.

I ask the mods to get this garbage off of Free Republic.

This individual has mocked the religious beliefs on others on this site, and he trolls in Palin threads to stir up trouble.

Someone is going to come along and tell you exactly what you want to hear, and then give you exactly what you deserve. You are going to get a RINO.
