The Top 8 Winners Of Obamanomics
The Business Insider ^ | 11/30/09 | John Carney

Posted on 11/30/2009 8:39:42 AM PST by FromLori

“Every time government gets bigger, somebody’s getting rich.”

That’s the starting point of my brother Tim Carney's new book released today, titled Obamanomics, How Barack Obama Is Bankrupting You and Enriching His Wall Street Friends, Corporate Lobbyists, and Union Bosses.

Whether he likes it or not, President Barack Obama’s policies on finance, the economy, technology, the environment, and even health care are turning out to be boons to the most entrenched special interests. Meanwhile, smaller businesses, taxpayers, and some disfavored industries are bearing the burden.

Our President believes in a “mixed economy” in which private enterprise and the profit motive are still alive and well, but government gets to pick the winners and losers.

Here, exclusive to The Business Insider, are the top eight winners from Obamanomics >>

Google and the Obama White House are pretty cozy: CEO Eric Schmidt served as a fundraiser and a campaign advisor to Obama’s campaign, and was one of the first corporate executive to visit Obama in the West Wing. Google was Obama’s No. 3 corporate source of campaign cash in 2008, providing ten times as much to Obama as to McCain.

Obama’s deputy chief technology officer is a Google alumnus. Finally, the company retains Obama’s favorite lobbying firm, the Podesta Group.

In concert with Google, Obama’s Federal Communications Commission is aggressively pushing for “net neutrality” regulations, which would be profitable for Google. Google is also trying to tap into the well of government contracts, peddling its cloud computing software to federal agencies.
