The further misadventures of political backbenchers.

This isn't courageous, it is defeatist. He damages our already low troop moral by being a defeatist. Cowards like this make me sick.

Appeasement to terrorists. Dishonor our troops and their sacrifices. Don't worry, Chaffetz, you and Obama are actually on the same page and will get your wish soon enough. The Obama/West Point speech is just a smokescreen to the inevitable policy to cut-and-run. Remember: Obama always lies.

Utah, throw this bum out in 2010.

Utah is a breeding ground for RINOism.

Just play the video of congressional candidate Lt. Col. Allen West. You’ll be glad you did. We must clean the sewer that is the US Congress.

Its not so simple.

While I am not happy that he is doing this vocally, I cant disagree with his concerns. Keep in mind that this guy is a solid solid conservative.

The bottom line is that conservatives are in a rough position with Afghanistan. On the one hand we can continue saying stay the course. Believe me, there is no doubt that if we had a true American President we can win in Afghanistan. It took just a few hundred green berets to do it the first time. During Bush’s second term we dropped the ball and lost ground. This is not just about sending more troops but about defining the mission as killing as many terrorists as possible with the ultimate goal of annihilating the Taliban and al-quieda.

This can be accomplished by changing the damn rules of engagement and fighting this like a real war. The problem is that Chaffetz knows with the Marxist, islamofacist thug Obama is charge that will never happen. Look at what is happening to the SEALs. There are dozens of other examples too. If we dont change the mission and the rules of engagement, it will be worthless to send more troops. It is like sending more guys into the meat grinder.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think that Chaffetz should do this publicly. Better yet, hes should articulate what I am saying instead of sounding like a moveon.org type. I’m just saying that as conservatives we are in a really tough spot when it comes to deploying troops during a rat administration.

All you need to know...

From Wikipedia...

Chaffetz is the half-brother of John Dukakis...

Chaffetz grew up as a Democrat. While a student at BYU, he was a Utah co-chairman for Michael Dukakis’s 1988 campaign for U.S. President. His father had previously been married to Dukakis’ wife, Kitty.[3]

If the Commander-in-Chief isn’t going to bother even trying to win or fight, I can see this guy’s point. Let’s see him make that point.

If Obama is not committed to fully supporting victory in Afghanistan and continues to fail to identify the real enemy, radical Islam, then I agree with Chaffetz.

I fear that Obama's speech tomorrow will chart a course of defeat, including a defined exit strategy with a timeline. If he does that, it is really surrender on a timetable.

Remember what Kerry said before Congress in 1971, "How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?"

He’s absolutely right. There is no reason to have any U.S. troops serving in combat under a “commander-in-chief” who has forfeited any presumption of confidence in his ability to lead.

Considering that Obama is open to the possibility of letting our troops stand trial for war crimes in front of an international court at The Hague, this position has some merit.

I disagree with this guy's defeatist reasons, but if Obama is willing to throw our troops to the wolves, then perhaps it would be better to keep the troops away from foreign judges. If Obama hands over our sovereignty, he should be impeached for treason.

For now, we need more troops.

How can you make any progress there when you have a muzzie in the white hut, the troops cannot fight back and Navy SEALS may go to jail for slapping around a terrorist on the battlefield.

The bigger enemy and danger are within our borders now and in control.

It is “defeatist” to undermine our national defense morale by getting deeper into Obama’s Afghan rathole. Finally, a Republican (other than Ron Paul) comes out against Obama’s War. Thus far, the GOP has been Obama’s best friend on that fiasco!

“I am opposed to nation building, and I quite frankly don’t see or understand what victory looks like,” he said. “I believe, as most people do, that our military can do everything we want them to do. ... But we’re asking them to fight a war that is not very well-defined. And we are asking them to do so with one hand tied behind their back.”

I can find nothing in this statement with which I disagree. Good for him.

I feel sorry for the persons who are so shortsighted that they cannot see what the repercussions of pulling out of Afghanistan are, for America and indeed peace throughout the world. These are Islamist terrorist groups we are thwarting and Pakistan has nukes and Iran almost has nukes and we absolutely must win Afghanistan or face the nukes.

Some people simply have no vision or resolve. Afghanistan is nothing to play with here. This is no “political” war. These thugs are seeking to get nukes as fast as they can.

If we pull out of Afghanistan, all the free world is toast. We still have Iran to deal with too.

Cowards?
An American sees that our men and women in uniform are being wasted because our so called leaders lack a spine and our society in general is clueless about the muslim threat and what needs to be done and this makes him a doward? As a veteran who dail;y is active in support of our current troops and our veterans, my view has become one that if we lack the courage to fight the muslims as we did the nazi and the japaness in WW2 then we should get the heck out and stop wasting lives....

Bring home Afghan troops

We are going to be seeing this rallying cry from the anti-wars. They are turning on the man-child illegally sleeping in the WH. I expect his polls to continue their slide. Whether the GOP can grab onto this during 2010 remains to be seen. The GOP has not been successful in standing up to the RAT party, and I almost half expect them to screw up the next election also.

While others have valid reasons for us to stay in Afghanistan, I can see no positive results for us in a war when the commander-in-chief is Barack 0bama.
The purpose is a good and honorable one. 0bama will not accomplish it.
Meanwhile, bordering Afghanistan, there is a muslim country that possesses nuclear weapons. Nobody seems very alarmed about that right now, but eventually it’s going to be catastrophic.
We can expect 0bama to make it catastrophic that much sooner.

I would refer him to the Pacifica archives, where Amy Goodman had on a guest (a self-admitted Lib and policy analyst of some sort) who insisted that Obama would not....COULD not leave Afghanistan. Goodman seemed incredulous to his answers as he rattled off a whole list of geopolitical strategic security reasons why it could not be done. Among them the dirty little secret that our allies in Europe and Asia would actually s**t a brick if they thought we were really about to bug out.

No no, Chaffetz is the man. A real true conservative and we need much more like him. I can sum up my reply in three words:

Rules of engagement.

Our troops aren’t being allowed to win. Why leave them there?

One thing I will say is that this shouldn’t have been done so vocally. But guys like Chaffetz’ and Alan Wests’ too far and few between.
