The legally-binding referendum result had not been widely expected and was a huge embarrassment for the neutral government in Switzerland.
In the run-up to the vote it had warned that a ban would "serve the interests of extremist circles" and damage economic ties with Muslim states.
Anti-immigrant right-wing populists had championed the vote and led an emotive campaign. The Swiss People's Party (SVP), the country's largest in terms of popular support and membership in parliament, used posters depicting a woman in a burka in front of minarets shaped like missiles rising from a Swiss flag.

The Telegraph got the numbers and the poster right, but missed the story.

Here are a couple of articles which provide a more coherent view of what happened:

Switzerland better arm herself against the Islamic naval fleets forming for attack.

I seriously doubt the muzzies are going to start any trouble where every single home must BY LAW have a machine gun.
The Swiss are the most gun happy people on the planet, and they know how to use them. Shooting is the national sport there.

"This is clearly the result of a lack of information and political education in Switzerland. Indeed.

Every Swiss home has at least one gun. If the MUZZIES try anything I hope the Swiss come out shooting. It is about time the MUZZIES got their a$$es slaughtered!

Muslim backlash? I thought Switzerland was a sovereign country and not owned by the Saudis & run by a Saudi puppet like the USA?
The Swiss were one of the first countries to allow citizens the right to bear arms and as such they were citizens and not subjects and serfs like the fools here who watch college & NFL ball games to enrich the liberal news/TV media and slump towards dhimini.

We need a serious backlash against the Muslims, perhaps if they are stupid enough to start a terrorist action over this we can get it on.

It’s good to see that the Swiss are rejecting the Lawrence of Arabia syndrome.

I seriously doubt the muzzies are going to start any trouble where every single home must BY LAW have a machine gun. Ya never know, the Jihadis aren't known for being the brightest bulbs in the string. At least not the low level ones. Having a bunch of Lutherans and Catholics shooting a bunch of Muzzies might serve the aims of the Jihadist leadership though.
Still, who's got the popcorn?

Here is a good idea: for every church built in Saudi Arabia, a corresponding mosque with minaret can be built in Switzerland. The Muslims would never go for it because they are blatant hypocrites.

“and damage economic ties with Muslim states.”
If western governments allowed us to drill our own oil, we would have no muslim states.
