Brazil's president says "gringos" should pay Amazon nations to prevent deforestation, insisting rich Western nations have caused much more past environmental destruction than the loggers and farmers who cut and burn trees in the world's largest tropical rain forest.
"I don't want any gringo asking us to let an Amazon resident die of hunger under a tree," Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva said ahead of an Amazon summit. "We want to preserve, but they will have to pay the price for this preservation because we never destroyed our forest like they mowed theirs down a century

I don't know about you guys, but my family (we are a family of gringos ) we were having our Thanksgiving dinner and talk turned to the state of the nation/world. Basically, we discussed how the country is in a depression, people are losing their homes/jobs and all Obama can do is talk about healthcare, immigration and climate change? Then, talk turned to CW2 and it was really a great turkey by the way.
And if we don’t pay?
Interesting that every nation directly south of the United States is either a Third World craphole....or a nation just teetering on Third World c-hole status?
And, the US should not pay one cent because Brazil decided to chop down its Amazon rainforests.....the nerve and classlessness of Lula da Racist....
Come and get it.
His point is similar to yours. The Greens are big on asking people to put themselves into an economic depression to save a tree.
You and I don’t think much of the idea, and neither do the Brazilians. He’s saying, if you don’t want me to cut the tree, buy the tree. If you don’t want Brazilians settling their own rain forest, then buy the acreage you want to preserve.
I think enviros should have to pay for their bright ideas from their own pockets. If they want a preserve, let them buy the land with their own money and do with it as they like. Don’t tell others what to do with their property.
Brazil: ‘Gringos’ Must Pay to Keep Rainforests
Up yours! (a gringo)
Hmmmmmm. Seems to me I've read in several places that there is more forest in the US than there was in the time of the Pilgrims.
Isn’t that nice how minorities can use racial slurs against whites whenever they feel like it? And the president of a country, no less.
Some Gringo needs to give both Lula and Chavez the Salvador Allende treatment.
Multiple books have been published, showing the importance of natural ecosystems to a nation state.
Guns, Germs, and Steel is a perfect example. Most countries that devastate their natural habitat doom themselves.
If the Brazilians want to suffer from runoff, acid leaching, deforestation, loss of natural wildlife, and erosion, then more power to them. Their whole country can turn into one giant favela for all I care. Well, more of one, I guess.
Nothing like insulting someone during a sales pitch.
My response: No va!
Who Cares what they do? They need to go cry to someone who gives a damm.
Could be true. An example - it’s hard today to trace unit movements on some Civil War battlefields in the east because forests have replaced 1860s farm land.
I'd like to put my gringo foot up his arse.
That is not what the book states. The book shows that any civilization that cultivates wheat or rice, can feed their population with less farmers and free the others to do other pursuits like crafts and metallurgy. Furthermore nations that have animal husbandry also catch various poxes from the animals like chicken pox, cow pox, small pox and etc and their population become immune to such diseases. Thus when the Europeons contact the Indians in the new world that live the environmentalist utopia (clean air, clean water) they died from the poxes.
Lu Lu is stark raving mad I tell you! There are more trees in North America as we speak than when Sitting Bull was but a twinkle in his daddy’s eyes. This “gringo” isn’t buying this shakedown.
