Reporting from Washington - Troubled by the rising jobless rate, President Obama and the Democratic majority in Congress are assembling a new jobs package that would devote billions of dollars to projects meant to put people back on payrolls in 2010 and keep them working.
Discussions over the scale of the bill are fluid, but lawmakers said the intent was to move swiftly and get a bill to Obama's desk as early as January.
The renewed push to create jobs is driven by a recognition that the $787-billion stimulus program enacted in February is not a sufficient remedy for an unemployment rate that stands at 10.2%.
Nearly 16 million people were unemployed as of October, and 3.49 million jobs have been lost since January, when Obama took office, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

White House: Soooo sorry that nearly trillion dollar package we pitched a temper tantrum to get passed way back nearly a year ago has done NOTHING for your job situation... however we have a BRAND NEW idea! We will do exactly what we did then, except THIS TIME we super pinky promise you’ll get some jobs out it! Really!
P.S. yes, you still owe us for the other “stimulus” we passed. No, I don’t know where the money went and no, I don’t know who got rich off of it, but aren’t you proud to be an American?

The last time is was mandatory electronic records....and IIRC, a right to oversight and/or analysis.
The H1N1 government run flu order was also a separate item.
A stimulus package to dig the holes, now a stimulus package to fill them in again.

I imagine that the 'to date' cost per taxpayer now exceeds $5,000?
That money has certainly missed the majority of 'filters' in the financial chain that would have occurred had the money been given back either directly or a tax (whatever).

There’s an old joke about a farmer who couldn’t make any money hauling hay so he bought a bigger hay truck. I think the driver was 0....
All those folks would have eventually bought a new car...maybe next month, maybe next year. And they likely would have selected a more gas friendly model. And then to destroy the older cars??
Wonder how many of those cars were financed with an equity loan on their house.
