Why should the USA give away everything we have?
Especially when it's in exchange for nothing?

This can't be allowed to occur. Contact your representatives.

This isn’t as big as give-away as some might think. This is only about top-level domain registration. The US can set up our own domain servers, and the knee-biters in the rest of the world can set up their own domain servers.

As is being seen with the “Great Firewall of China” - there’s always a way around any bureaucratic nonsense on the ‘net. Once you can get an “IP dialtone” — the cat is out of the bag.

Does ALGORE know about this? I mean, he invented it, didn’t he?

This is only about domain names and it could be a good thing. There have been cases where judges have confiscated domain names in order to coerce web sites. Anything that reduces the power of government is a good thing.

The cost of booking a domain name will now shoot up dramatically! US should keep control over it.

If Obama doesn’t possess it, he can’t control it.

Not to worry domestically. As long as we control the pipe, servers are cheap and another network can be established with days. The fibre doesn’t care what it carries.

With the control of the internet firmly in the hands of a foreign entity, It will be EASIER for governments to spy on their own citizens. They can hire foreigners to do it without getting entangled in their own laws.
