‘Going Rogue’ Palin trumps best sellers in first week

Watch out James Patterson, Stephen King and Dan Brown. Sarah Palin has you beat — at least this week.

All that experience on the campaign trail has served Palin well. The 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate, who is popular among many U.S. conservatives, has excelled in the first week of her multi-state, campaign-style media tour to promote her new book which was released on Nov. 17.

The former Alaskan governor’s memoir, “Going Rogue: An American Life” topped the charts in its first week of publication. Nielsen Bookscan said the new author eclipsed best-sellers Patterson and King whose books also debuted that week.

In a comparison of other first week book sales by current or past presidents or vice presidential candidates, Palin came in second only to former President Bill Clinton who sold about 606,000 copies of his memoir ”My Life” in its debut week. The former Republican vice presidential candidate’s sales at 469,000 were just above Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s “Living History”.

The figures don’t include numbers from big box stores Wal-Mart, Sam’s, BJs or libraries.

Fans have told of driving for hours to wait in long, snaking lines at Palin’s book-signings which are reminiscent of last year’s campaign stops.(continued)

And that's without counting sales at Wal-Mart, BJ's, Sam's Club, Costco, libraries, etc.??!! That's probably where she'll sell the most books! Hahahahaha! The real number is probably in the millions, already!! Pretty good for a "washed-up, moronic, quitter" don't you think?

What’s that sound? Hear it? It’s coming from over there. There, there it goes again. Can you hear it yet? Wow, that one was really loud.

Yes, the beautiful and unmistakable sound of lib heads blowing up when it finally occurs to them that their ‘hate drive’ against Palin has helped her become a multimillionaire.... in record time.

Thank you libs, thank you one and all... wherever you are. Oh cool, there goes another one. LOL

The mass market retailers (Costco, WalMart, etc.) have typically been omitted from these numbers and are probably an increasing percentage of book sales. Last number I saw was 30% but I suspect that may be low.

I was in my local Costco last Wednesday and there was a mountain of "Going Rogue" books at the entrance.

I was in there again yesterday and the book was gone. Not a Palin book in the place.

How can this be? So inexperienced. So reviled. So dangerous!

But apparently she knows how to write a book. And what's more...a WHOLE lot of people are interested in knowing what she has to say.

I bet if they took the pre-release sales, and all of those chain store sales, she would beat Clinton handily...and that's why they worded it the way they did. GO SARAH GO!

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil" - Sarah Palin, August 8, 2009

"We face challenging times with some hell-bent on tearing down our nation by perpetuating pessimism and apologizing for America. They suggest that our best days were yesterdays. But how can this pessimism exist? Proof of our greatness and pride is all around us today. We produce proud and great volunteers who sacrifice everything for their country.

"We can resist enslavement to big central government that crushes hope and opportunity. We must be wary of government largesse. It doesn’t come free and often accepting it takes away everything that is free. Melting into Washington’s powerful and caretaking arms will only lead to suck away the incentive to work hard and chart our own course. This will only contribute to an unstable economy and dizzying national debt, and it will make us less free.

"We don’t have to feel that we must beg an allowance from Washington – except to beg the allowance to be self-determined.

"See, in order to be self-sufficient (we) must be allowed to develop, to drill and build and climb to fulfill our promise! We can not start believing that government is the answer. It can’t make you happy or healthy or wealthy or wise. What can? It is the wisdom of the people and our families and our small businesses and industrious individuals. And it is God’s grace helping those who help themselves." - Sarah Palin, July 26, 2009
