MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (AP) - One day after signing with the San Diego Chargers, Jon Runyan says he'll retire at the end of the season and run for Congress in New Jersey.
The 35-year-old offensive lineman said Wednesday that he told Republican officials in Burlington County of his plans to challenge Democratic Rep. John Adler in New Jersey's 3rd District.
"I look forward to a successful end to my career on the field," Runyan said in a statement, "and a spirited campaign against Congressman Adler in 2010."

He will be very popular with the Eagles fans in that area- a good player but a better leader...accepted less money to stay w/Philly a few years ago and really was the glue for that line for a long time....
Does anyone know if Rush mentioned this?
Good thing he’s running in South Jersey where there are more Eagles fans. But this Giants fan remembers him as a pretty classy opposing player. He even described former Giants defensive end Michael Strahan as one of the greatest of all time.

That is outstanding!!

Awesome news!
Hope he is a conservative and I wish him luck.
If he thought football was a violent contact sport, politics is worse.
Largent, Kemp, Shuler pulled it off.
Only downside is that he's a Michigan alum, but I can overlook that...
I think we can very easily forgive him from going to that cesspool in Ann Arbor, cause it seems he grew into conservatism.....
