Climate science update: from bad to worse (7C degrees temperature rise, 3 foot sea level rise.)

PARIS (AFP) – The planet could warm by seven degrees Celsius (10.8 degrees Fahrenheit) and sea levels could rise by more than a metre (3.25 feet) by 2100, scenarios that just two years ago were viewed as improbable, scientists said on Tuesday.

In the widest overview on global warming since a landmark report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report in 2007, the authors said manoeuvering room for tackling the carbon crisis was now almost exhausted.

The 64-page "Copenhagen Diagnosis" aims at the December 7-18 UN conference in Denmark, tasked with forging a planet-wide deal on greenhouse-gas emissions.

"This is a final scientific call for climate negotiators from 192 countries who must embark on the climate protection train in Copenhagen," said Hans Schellnhuber, director of Germany's Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), which oversaw the paper.

"They need to know the stark truth about global warming and the unprecedented risks involved," he said.

The scientists billed the summary as "an interim scientific evaluation" between the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report, known as AR4, and its next big handbook, due in 2013. Several authors were part of that Nobel-winning group.

New evidence published in peer-reviewed scientific literature suggests many of the estimates published in 2007 are too low, the "Copenhagen Diagnosis" suggested.

We predict that the size of the lie will rise geometrically the more the entire hoax is exposed.

Water expands when it is frozen. Shouldn’t the sea levels drop if the ice caps melt?

Archimedes' principle says that ice displaces an equal amount of water. That's why, if you put ice in a glass, then fill it to the top with water, the glass won't overflow when the ice melts.

Land-based ice (think Greenland or Antarctica) is more problematic. However, everything that I've read regarding Antarctica says that the ice cap - other than in several small places on the periphery, which coincidentally is what the eco-nuts are measuring - is getting thicker.

I read an article on FR about icemelt in Greenland.... typically hyperbolic..."millions of gallons of meltwater a week in the summer" or somesuch nonsense. I ran the numbers and it amounted to a wet weather stream that wouldn't even get the tops of your shoes wet.

Hard to sort the wheat from the chaff on this one. Lots of good posts right here on FR, though.

The “land spring back” would only work where the ice was removed — Greenland and Antarctica. So that’s not a good riposte— but I’m still not worried. ( northern North America has been “springing back” from the retreat of the glaciers for 10,000 years, but that’s pretty much exhausted).

From the headline, I thought it meant more disclosures had come out about their bogus data.

This is a criminal fraud investment scheme to dwarf Bernie Madoff. He got a life sentence for his crimes. What about Al Gore, the crook who said he was getting rich simply because he put his money (and yours) where his mouth was?

All the recent “projections” have been two or three times the previous ones, and are gettng press.

There is no truth in the Pravda Media.

So much for "scientific consensus".

There is nothing to fear. I just checked Wikipedia and Mt. Everest is still 8,848 meters (29,029 ft) above sea level. The actual level of the sea has not risen. We are being lied to again.

That's only because the rise in our oceans (from melting ice) is offset by water lost when our oceans drain off the edge of the world.

Obama recently showed the world how meaningless a Nobel designation has become.

“what makes me laugh is that the idiots who actually believe Gore and not realise he is not a scientist and he goes around on private jets, lives in big houses and all these idiots who say this crap use more energy than the average person.”

Limits on energy consumption have never been intended for the governing class—any more than:

* democrat politicians who oppose school choice for poor blacks intend their children to go to the same crap schools they force their constituents into; or

* barak obama intends to be limited to the health insurance choices thee and me will have; or

But understand that they do not feel like hypocrits on these kinds of issues. They know they are different.

Is this like one of those “Armageddon” type movies, where the astroid is just fixin to hit the earth if they don’t send up the rigs to drill the hole to drop the bomb at the last minute?

I mean, really that’s how they try to portray this glo-BULL warming stuff. Sickening

It sounds like Hans Schiklgruber is another one who fails to grasp the difference between "scientific" and "political"...

scenarios that just two years ago were viewed as improbable

Whereas now, just a scant two years later (in light of recent developments) they have gone from being viewed as improbable to being completely laughable.

They’re talking about land ice; take the coffee strainer out of your coffee maker, put a filter in it and then fill it with ice from your refrigerator.

When the ice melts, the water will be in the pot.

This is not a quick way to make ice coffee.
