Climate science update: from bad to worse (7C degrees temperature rise, 3 foot sea level rise.)

PARIS (AFP) – The planet could warm by seven degrees Celsius (10.8 degrees Fahrenheit) and sea levels could rise by more than a metre (3.25 feet) by 2100, scenarios that just two years ago were viewed as improbable, scientists said on Tuesday.

In the widest overview on global warming since a landmark report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report in 2007, the authors said manoeuvering room for tackling the carbon crisis was now almost exhausted.

The 64-page "Copenhagen Diagnosis" aims at the December 7-18 UN conference in Denmark, tasked with forging a planet-wide deal on greenhouse-gas emissions.

"This is a final scientific call for climate negotiators from 192 countries who must embark on the climate protection train in Copenhagen," said Hans Schellnhuber, director of Germany's Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), which oversaw the paper.

"They need to know the stark truth about global warming and the unprecedented risks involved," he said.

The scientists billed the summary as "an interim scientific evaluation" between the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report, known as AR4, and its next big handbook, due in 2013. Several authors were part of that Nobel-winning group.

New evidence published in peer-reviewed scientific literature suggests many of the estimates published in 2007 are too low, the "Copenhagen Diagnosis" suggested.

yes they have, and this is the response.

Severely upgrade the threat, blast it far and wide, to panic us and drown out the faint voices talking about fraud.

All the recent “projections” have been two or three times the previous ones, and are gettng press.

Is this with or without the data fudging revealed in “Climategate” factored in.

and one more from 2006! "By Alister Doyle, Environment Correspondent Oslo - The world's oceans may rise up to 140cms by 2100 due to global warming, a faster than expected increase that could threaten low-lying coasts from Florida to Bangladesh, a researcher said on Thursday. "The possibility of a faster sea level rise needs to be considered when planning adaptation measures such as coastal defences," Stefan Rahmstorf of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research wrote in the journal Science. His study, based on air temperatures and past sea level changes rather than computer models, suggested seas could rise by 50-140 cms by 2100, well above the 9-88 cms projected by the scientific panel that advises the United Nations. what makes me laugh is that the idiots who actually believe Gore and not realise he is not a scientist and he goes around on private jets, lives in big houses and all these idiots who say this crap use more energy than the average person.

I usually look at who says this and then see if they lead by example first.
Seems this country we have too many uneducated idiots who follow blindly like a cult and cannot use a brain they have been given.

Many a time I feel like grabbing these idiots and slapping them to wake them up out of their cult like thinking.
This world would be better off if the MTV’/the view, Oprah viewers/American idol/ etc would use a brain

I'm now to the point where I look at climate scare-mongers and laugh at them.

I'm done being civil. Alinsky's tactics. I mock them. I now have concrete proof that mocking them is the right thing to do.

That would hold true for water-based ice; but not land based ice.

Isn't most of the artic ice water based? Serial Question.

Doesn’t make sense. When ice melts in a glass, the water doesn’t rise or overflow. I wonder what physics they are using.

The sea ice isn't a problem. However, all that land-based ice melting would theoretically add to the sea level rise, but then you have the weight of the ice lifted from the land mass, which would allow the long-suppressed land itself to rise, therefore negating the rising sea levels...

I need a beer.

There is nothing to fear. I just checked Wikipedia and Mt. Everest is still 8,848 meters (29,029 ft) above sea level. The actual level of the sea has not risen. We are being lied to again.
