WaPo Editorial: "Yes, She Can. Palin Has a Shot at the Presidency."
Washington Post ^ | November 24, 2009 | Mathew Dowd

Posted on 11/24/2009 2:25:35 AM PST by ghostas

The gap between Obama's approval rating among Democrats and among Republicans is nearly 70 percentage points -- a higher partisan divide than either Bill Clinton or George W. Bush experienced. Obama's agenda and actions this year, and some mistakes, have solidified this divide.

Polls show that Palin's favorability numbers are a mirror image of those of Obama. She is respected and loved by the Republican base, while Democrats despise her. Granted, independent voters have significant reservations about her capability to be president, and this would be a hurdle in the general election. But to win the Republican nomination, Palin needs only to get enough support from the base to win early key states. Already, in nearly every poll today, she has a level of support that makes her a viable primary candidate. Just look at the crowds and the buzz her book tour is drawing.

Like it or not, if Sarah Palin decides to seek our nation's highest office, she has a shot. The probability of her success depends on her ability, and that of President Obama, to admit and learn from their mistakes as we head into 2012.

Yeah, the part where he advises her not to blame bad decisions “on someone else” was a hoot...

PLEASE STOP THIS and FOCUS on taking back the CONGRESS in 2010. Put as much energy into your district and state and take back CONGRESS to stop Obama ASAP.

Anyone who denies that Palin is not a viable candidate in the 2012 GOP primaries is either delusional or frankly has an agenda and doesn’t want to admit it for public consumption, for fear of losing face or a paycheck from a cable news network.

I believe you double polarized this one with the "not".

Why not both? I personally have been focused on 2010 since last November, while maintaining my enthusiam for everything Sarah stands for.

Between you, me and the fencepost this is exactly what Sarah is focused on now. The MSM obviously focuses too much on the Presidential contest but you are absolutely correct: the 2010 midterms are key to undermining Obama’s agenda and whether Palin declares for the presidency or not.

When leftest news outlets like the WaPo even hint that Palin could win the GOP nomination, then you can bet that they really perceive her as devisive and unlikely to dethrone the 0bama in the general election. They want her to win the nomination because they think she's the weakest candidate in the general election.

They rooted for Reagan to be a sacrificial lamb in 1980. I hope they are as successful with Sarah.

But, something like 65% of independents now feel the media have treated her unfairly. That in fact is nearly enough to negate the media as an opinion leader on Palin.

Precisely. Americans sense that the media duped us into voting for Obama. He's certainly not who they told us he would be. This too is causing people to re-evaluate Sarah Palin.

There are half a dozen people I can think of who think they’re a better choice for president than she is. If Palin thinks the 2008 campaign was hard on her and her family, wait until she has to make it through the 2012 primaries. And is she comes out on top, then the presidential campaign will make everything else seem like a kiss on the cheek.

Half a dozen? With the same name recognition, right? Could you list their names?

So Independents have reservations about Palin’s ability to be president. Aren’t the same idiots that had no problem with The Marxist Onada? ‘Nough said.

I remember that Carter was happy that Reagan won the GOP nomination in 1980 because President Peanut thought that Reagan was another Goldwater and could be beaten easily. We know how that worked out.

The democrats and media did everything they could to destroy Palin as a Govenor starting just after the election last year. They didn’t do this to advance her prospects as the Republican nominee.

Could you list their names?

Pawlenty, Romney, Giuliani, Huckabee, and Crist to start. Maybe Jindal. Maybe Brownback, though I think he's looking to 2016 he could change his mind. No doubt others will come crawling out of the woodwork, especially if Obama still looks as vulnerable as he's looking now.

They question Sarah Palin's capability to be president. When did anyone question 0's capability? (Other than true Conservatives.)

here it is only 7:35 am Central Time, and there are already 8, yes 8, Sarah Palin threads, that have already been read and commented on by hundreds, and even thousands of people all over the country. What other repub or conservative or even dem gets that much attention, except for 0bama.

Going Rogue is quickly closing in on 1 million copies sold, thousands are turning out at every stop along her book signing tour, and are being covered by hundreds of very positive stories in the local media. Millions have tuned in to see and hear her interviewed on radio and TV.

Yes, I think she can not only win the nomination, but win the general election as well, and do it without any inside the beltway advice.

The Lamestream likes evil empires and, above all, they don’t want to see another person like Reagan who will economically bring down the evil empire we are up against today by having a sensible attitude about using our own oil resources. That would bring down the evil empire that they favor, just as they favored communism and thought someone wanting to defeat it was a “cowboy” not worthy of their notice as “elite intellectuals.” They underestimated him and they are underestimating her. I would advise her not to seek advise from those who advised either Bush. Their poorly disguised contempt for “conservatives” would be the worst thing for her to emulate.

Which Crist? The senator or the governor? Jindal I agree, but I believe he’s ineligible, but man enough to admit it...Pawlenty, possibly. He is talking a good game. The Simulus money could be a problem, and he’s already got hit by the RINO tag (like Gualini, Romny and Huckabee). Romny/Palin would make a better team than McCain/Palin did. As for Huckabee I personally disagree; he has some creepy ideas about nanny statism and is too liberal in some ways, but that’s just MPO.

Call them what you want, there is a full slate of potential candidate who want it bad enough to rip Palin to shreds if necessary in order to get the nomination for themself. The question will be, does Palin want it as bad as they do?
