There was no evidence of conspiracy among climate scientists in the leaked emails so why was the University of East Anglia's response so pathetic?
The lay public, when presented with confusing data and competing arguments about climate change, deploy the mental shortcut of believing the people they most trust. Trust in the communicator is therefore crucial.
Unfortunately the three main climate change communicators: politicians, journalists and environmental campaigners, are among the least trusted people in society fighting it out for bottom place in the ranking with lawyers and car salesmen. No one would pay any attention to them at all if they were not drawing on the aquifer of public trust in scientists.

Don't let them get away with mush.
So, in reviewing the comments, it seemed that the only ones allowed were pro-global warming. Much more than half had been removed by the moderator...
They're going crazy, including that Communist sleeper site, Little Green Footballs. Glenn Beck exposed the sloppy reporting and outright lying of that site, but that has not deterred that blue dog blogger from pushing this anti science garbage while hypocrticially railing against creationism 24/7.
If they believed that then why were they talking about altering data in order to fit their model?
My God, this author has been reading different emails than those published. They discuss falsifying data, deleting emails, make suggestions on how to marginalize/destroy other scientists who are skeptics, etc. Just because they don't mention taking orders from George Soros doesn't mean they weren't planning how to advance the human-caused global warming mantra in publications and meetings -- the overwhelming evidence is that they were. And that speaks conspiracy to me, especially when they took taxpayer (OUR) money to do so. Sorry Mr. Marshall, you have it all wrong.
Typical Liberal Trick, Pretend it doesn’t say what it says.
Take Heart, Drudge is now put us at the top of his page.
Before, he wasn’t listening either.
That was before they were exposed, now they rank lower than used car salesmen.
True, maybe dumping thumbdrives out in the trash right now.
Psssst. Hey, buddy! Wanna buy a used hoax?
nah, I already got a good deal from someone named Al Gore and he gave me a letter from the original owner, so I know its in good shape.
Talk about being a "denier"! This guy's right up there with Baghdad Bob.
lol, we should photoshop him
I’m talkin’ Flat Earth, pal. It’s really more than a hoax it used to be a universal belief. I can throw in a fire breathing dragon tale, no extra charge. These are classics not disco era retreads.
Climate Gate deniers!
I checked out your site, not bad.
I was thinking we could dress him up with some Taliban garb and give him an IED that is blowing up in his face.
OK, I can see I can’t interest you in anything big. I understand, money is tight these days. I’ll let you have a 19th century Luddite theory if you can just give me bus fare.
Some say England is going down the toilet, when actually it’s already floating amongst the scum in a settling pond at a sewage treatment facility.
