Preliminary reports link Chinese drywall, corrosion in U.S. homes

The suspected link between Chinese drywall and toxic effects reported by thousands of U.S. homeowners was strengthened Monday by three preliminary reports issued by the federal government.

The strongest link came from an analysis of air sampled inside dozens of homes containing drywall made in China.

"While the study of 51 homes detected hydrogen sulfide and formaldehyde ... at concentrations below irritant levels, it is possible that the additive or synergistic effects of these and other compounds in the subject homes could cause irritant effects," the Consumer Product Safety Commission said in its executive summary of the study. Two other preliminary studies found copper sulfide corrosion in metal components taken from homes containing the Chinese drywall.

The drywall in question was imported from 2005 through 2007, when a housing boom and two active hurricane seasons created a shortage of building materials in the southern United States.

Since then, the product safety agency has received nearly 2,100 reports from 32 states -- but mostly from Florida, Louisiana and Virginia -- of homeowners complaining of a rotten-egg smell, sickness, failed appliances, and corroded wires and pipes. Many have moved out of their homes. In some cases, insurers have refused to reimburse them.

The air study tested 41 houses containing Chinese drywall and compared those findings with air from inside 10 homes in the same geographical areas whose homeowners had not complained, said Jack McCarthy, president of Environmental Health & Engineering Inc., which carried out the work

Wolfson said the Chinese helped investigate. “They’re committed to helping us with the technical side of this investigation,” he said.

Hahahahah!

And just when we thought this nonsense was over. LOL!!

CHINESE PORTAPOTTY (And before someone asks, I will post this until the idiots in government alter this insane and now dangerous UNILATERAL trade policy with China and the fools in the multinationals STOP exporting the production of EVERYTHING to China and bring those jobs home.

As you think about that, recall that in ancient times, the Romans and others would catapult disease-riddled corpses over the walls of cities they besieged to sicken and kill the enemy. The Chinese know that history even if we obviously have forgotten it. Get my drift there?

On a recent visit to China, a friend spotted this ad in a Beijing newspaper. He sent me the photo with a translation of the ad copy.

BECOME AN ENTREPRENEUR AND JOIN CHINA’S NEW MONIED ELITE!

Yes, you can now join the millions of happy and prosperous Chinese citizens taking advantage of the growing numbers of American and Western multinational corporations “outsourcing” their production to the hard-working and industrious people of China. This outsourcing has now spread to their food supplies and ingestible items. Since these firms pay us for gross weight – and this new weight will be pretty gross – and the stupid American government only spot-checks imported items in these categories (they just got lucky on the anti-freeze thing), it has opened an entirely new opportunity which our beloved Chairman is offering to any Chinese citizen willing to do a little of what the foolish Americans call “grunt work.”

Installing one of these state-of-the-art food additive production facilities behind YOUR hovel is as simple as clipping the coupon below and sending it to the address shown. Your production plant will be shipped to you in 4 to 6 weeks. Supplies are limited so don’t fart around. ACT NOW!!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

These silly Americans have an expression we have “borrowed” and modified to describe this new and exciting venture: “Don’t give me any s**t.”

Our motto will be “We won’t GIVE you any s**t. But we’ll SELL it to you fools at a really great price.”

Better yet, we convince them to COME HERE to pick it up and save us the shipping costs.

AND LOOK FOR A NEW DROP-DEAD MONEY-MAKER COMING SOON. SOYLENT YELLOW PROMISES TO BE BIG!!

AND YOU MIGHT BE INTERESTED TO KNOW THAT THE “CHERY” PERSONAL VEHICLE TO BE IMPORTED BY CHRYSLER IS SIMPLY A HORIZONTALLY MODIFIED VARIATION OF THE VERTICAL UNIT SHOWN ABOVE. WE SIMPLY SLAP AN ENGINE AND SOME WHEELS ON THAT PUPPY AND OFF SHE GOES! AMERICA’S VAST ILLEGAL POPULATION OUGHT TO SNAP THEM UP LIKE TACOS.

You'd be much more likely to trust this one if both of the coils in your dual zone A/C system were corroding to the point of having to be replaced every 6 months - at a $1000 a pop.

You'd also be more apt to trust it if all of your appliances were fritzing out, your wife was getting nose bleeds, your sinuses were infected for months on end and your daughter wasn't sick but woke up every morning with a dry cough.

If take an objective look into the Chinese Drywall issue, you'll see that it's actually real, and that the Chinese actually did export drywall that's now off-gassing some nasty stuff.

Another thing a freeper pointed out I don’t recall who but they said these trade deals (which I think have been unfair to Americans the whole time) but anyway they make it easier to bring about global governance. The Copenhagen treaty would certainly help that along. The new EU president just said it would.

I go out of my way to try and buy American I definitely will not buy any of those chinese food and fish imports you might just as well willingly drink or eat poison. Remember all the dogs that died and babies too from those commies.

And greedy US builders aren’t at all to blame for buying the “cheap stuff?” Come on, there’s a lot of blame to go around here.

And the US consumer gets screwed again. China is going to basically tell us to suck it up, and they freaking own us so we have to. I am goign to do an addition to my home and will do my very best to make sure no Chinese products don’t get placed in my house.

I thought it was an availability issue rather than price.
Back when liars loans and option ARMs were turbocharging housing demand and stressing the supply of all kinds of building materials in the US.

There’s not much labor involved in mfg drywall and shipping heavy board from China can’t help the competitiveness.

Any experts here?
