What would happen if government-run automobile insurance became a reality as the result of legislation similar to that calling for government-run health care?
* Coverage would include things like car washes, oil changes and windshield wipers as well as tire and windshield wiper replacement;
* Uninsured motorists would receive treatment (i.e., periodic maintenance services, emergency towing and collision repair service) at the expense of taxpayers;
* Lines at oil change centers, auto repair shops and car washes would grow long and waiting times would increase, because people would no longer hesitate to bring their vehicles into the shop for the automotive equivalent of sniffles, sneezes and coughs;
* Premiums would skyrocket, because the government would mandate certain coverage minimums and because motorists who fail to pay insurance premiums would still receive coverage.
* Individuals who do not drive would still be forced to pay for coverage or risk being thrown in jail by the government; and, perhaps, worst of all
* Relationships between mechanics and collision-repair experts would no longer be private.
While Im sure more possibilities exist, I think you get the point, so take action now!
If you dont want government in charge of your health care, CONTACT YOUR SENATORS in Washington, D.C., and demand they vote against government-run health care. It could save your life!
You would be required to have auto insurance, even if you don’t actually own any cars.
Who said it would work?
And if you didn’t purchase auto insurance, even if you don’t have a car, you would be subject to fines and/or 5 years in jail. And the IRS would be after you!
Brilliant parallel. Would love to see this gem run in letters-to-the-editor of major newspapers.
Coverage would include ... oil changes...
When you get an oil change, you would pay a co-pay of $35. The actual cost of the change would be $200, as new middlemen and middlewoman would form a vast bureaucracy taking the other $165.
Some provinces in Canada (including British Columbia) have government monopoly auto insurance. Compared to private insurance, some drivers save money, a lot get the shaft (and I don’t mean the drive shaft). OTOH, we don’t have a government-run auto company.
On the other hand, you could wreck them 'willy-nilly' and the government would give you a "free" replacement.
Pre-existing conditions should NOT block you from purchasing auto insurance! If you have no insurance at all, but get into an accident and need extensive work done, have your car towed to a government office and they will assist with paperwork to get you coverage so that the repairs can be done at no charge.
Excellent analogy. Thanks for the post.
Poorly.
Good point, because under a .gov auto insurance plan you could not be denied for past accidents or violations.

Right. Good luck with that. At the rate these leftist propaganda sheets are failing, better hurry.
Actually, a fellow named Andrew Tobias had this idea a few years ago, and I liked because of the funding source. He wanted to fund it from a national tax on gasoline.
In our state (and I suspect in most), the biggest part of your insurance bill is the dam “uninsured motorist” cost. By paying at the pump, everyone would have to pay up.
I wouldn’t like the idea of the government running it though.
Heck, you would not even need a valid license!
New Jersey has the most heavily regulated auto insurance marketplace. Guess which state has the highest average auto insurance premium?
Actually there is state run insurance -—it is called all risk or high risk. It is the pool of last resort. It offers liabilty insurance at the state minimums for an arm and a leg premium. Other than that you get nada
This question is asked in jest to make a point about the healthcare scam, but know this: The Communist intend to make everything single payer, paid to the federal government, including auto insurance, which will only be issued for cars they approve. I jest not. It is just around the corner. Think a federal auto insurance program would be tyrannical? When you are driving your government approved car, covered by your single payer auto insurance to a job the government approves of, paid for by a single payer government employment program, you will wish for the good old days of freedom. You will drive home, listening to government approved news, stopping at a government controlled grocery store for your government approved food allocations that you will take to the house or apartment that is government provided or government financed, an approved house that has the right kind of light bulbs, water heater, cooling and heating, and inside will be your government approved TV and computer, connected to government controlled cable. This is the liberal vision of social justice and happiness.
