Very good advice. It's the foods we all eat everyday and they are much more economical than MRE's and specialty dehydrated foods.
However, there is a pitfall. We learned (the hard way) that some foods come complete with weevil larvae.
Now we put all pasta, flour, noodles, rice and other dry foods in the freezer for at least a few days as soon as we bring them home. It kills the larve and is essentially free unless you don't have a freezer.
We even freeze all dehydrated and dry mixes such as soup, gravy and spices along with mac & cheese, stuffing, cake mixes, bread, tortillas, etc. They can all harbor eggs and larvae. If we don't need the space we leave them in the freezer until we do.
Larvae can even survive vacuum packing but freezing klls them off.
We keep the new items seperate from those already freezer processed to prevent possible cross contamination
.
Larvae.
A little extra protein.
Works for me!
