The line looked like a conservative's worst socialized-medicine nightmare, a thousand or more people assigned letters of the alphabet and following commands to snake through multiple turns.
But the crowd didn't seem to mind. And when the first glimpse of spiky gray hair emerged through a back entrance by the magazine section, a huge cheer erupted.
Conservative media star Glenn Beck spent about 90 minutes signing copies of his latest bestseller, Arguing With Idiots, at the Books-A-Million store in Chasewood Plaza this evening.
The stop was part of a two-day, seven-city swing through Florida, the kind of tour political candidates take. And indeed, Beck told the orderly throng through an electronic bullhorn, he'll be unveiling a massive plan to transform America on Saturday afternoon in The Villages in Central Florida.
"I've been waiting for a leader to appear. They haven't shown up yet. So it's time that you lead and we're going to do it together and I have a plan," said Beck, who wore blue jeans, Louis Vuitton loafers and an untucked shirt.
"You might question now whether you've made a difference in the world. This time next year, you will have the answer to that," Beck said.
Then it was down to business.

Beck bump!
Sometimes I can’t help but wonder if he dreams of living in the White House.
Sarah might invite him over for a stay in the Lincoln bedroom.
I sure wish I knew for certain if she was going to run.
I appreciate how much Glenn Beck has taught me. That said, my big fear is that his solution is going to be trying to convince people to vote 3rd party, for the libertarian candidates. I fear this will result in Democrat victories. That is my one big fear with Beck. I think he is doing everything else right and I appreciate the information he has revealed on his program. My dream would be to throw out both parties and vote in independent conservatives and put the fear of god back into the Republicans, to push them way back to the right. But my fear is that in the attempt that Beck will make, he will play into the Dems hands by splitting the conservative vote.
I pray my fears are not realized, as this would just consolidate socialist power as a new wave of Dems are elected.
I happen to like Glenn Beck a lot. Then I learned that he is from Mount Vernon, WA.....What???? So am I!!!!
Well I happened to be downtown Mt. Vernon in August with my sister and we were just doin the lookey loo when we happened to walk by the Skagit County Democratic Headquarters. The ladies there had some jewelry for sale and asked us if we wanted to come in and look. I said, “Is it Democratic jewelry?” and they said no...happened to be lots of Catholic stuff I wanted and so I paid them a few bucks...Then they got on to Glenn Beck and what a travesty that the mayor had given Glenn the KEY TO THE CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course I had to then tell them that I liked Glenn Beck and they said, “Glenn Beck has threatened to KILL OUR PRESIDENT, he’s evil, how could you blah blah blah.
I was so sorry I gave them $5 or $10 bucks for the unusual Catholic silver jewelry I found there.
I wasn’t in Mount Vernon the day Glenn came to town, but I wish I could have been.
Hah You should have told them you would remember them in your evening Rosary.
For the Grace of God to guide them to the truth.
And Beck is a Catholic (albeit not a practincing one)
So now I curious about the jewelry pieces.
Can you be more specific, if you care too.
Sounds interesting.
Oh, there was a Key to Heaven, which I had never seen before, but it had (I gave it away to another sister) a Miraculous Medal, St Christopher, Jesus with a lamb and several other things on it. Then there was a similar thing, but a pendant in the shape of a heart, with an enameled rose in the center. It also has the Miraculous Medal, and every time I see one for sale I’ll buy it. There was also an ornate sterling crucifix that I am going to put on a rosary for a sister’s Christmas present. I have 8 sisters and 3 of us have been making rosaries together.
I didn’t know Glenn was a non-practicing Catholic. I think I heard Bill O’Reilly proclaim to his face that he’s a Mormon.
Anyway, the only reason I knew Glenn was from MV was because he was interviewing Jim Caveziel on CNN one day and mentioned that they were both from the same town. Jim and his family are very devout.
