WASHINGTON, Nov 18 (Reuters) - U.S. Republican Senator John McCain on Wednesday strongly defended the top advisers from his 2008 presidential campaign in the face of sharp criticism from his vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin.
McCain, in a telephone interview with Reuters, singled out campaign manager Steve Schmidt and senior adviser Nicolle Wallace for praise after Palin blasted the pair in her memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life."
"There's been a lot of dust flying around in the last few days and I just wanted to mention that I have the highest regard for Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace and the rest of the team ... and I appreciated all the hard work and everything they did to help the campaign," he said.
"I think it's just time to move on," he said.

Just when I think McCain can't get any worse, he gets worse. McCain did nothing to defend Sarah when his anonymous staffers were trashing her to the MSM. He may have even encouraged them. He ran a terrible campaign and now he is taking sides against Sarah.
How long do you think it will be before Meghan makes the rounds of the talk shows trashing Sarah Palin?
Yeah memo to Senator Juan
You still a p***y
He's not going away.
Just like a vaudville show. Bring out the hook.
Bingo! That what I saw folks doing around here too. Most of our focus was on exposing Obama as a marxist and chicago thug.
McCain needs to be defeated in the 2010 primary! Enough is enough!
It’s all comparative. Most of the complaints were people screaming at McCain to stop reaching across the aisle and start fighting against his opponent.
Really pretty polite compared to what we were saying about him earlier, before he won the nomination in that rigged primary setup.
Nicolle Wallace is a despicable wh@re.
I believe Sarah Palin!
Baloney. The perennially disgruntled and third party hacks were hacking it up to election day.
>> “Screw McQueeg and his little groin leeches.”
ROFL! Maybe someday we can coax cripplecreek out of his shell, and he’ll tell us what he REALLY thinks of Johnny.
“McCain needs to be defeated in the 2010 primary! Enough is enough!’
Huh. Some might say the emphasis should be directed at Harry Reid.
I have absolutely no respect for Mr. McBipartisan’s political life. But he did accomplish one big thing. He demonstrated why conservatives cannot keep voting for RINOs and expect to have a meaningful seat at the GOP table.
The utter failure of his presidential campaign was really the best thing that could have happened given the circumstances. It also cleared the way for a Marxist to wind up in the WH. His utter failure as a ursurper president has opened many eyes that were shut before.
So, I say hip, hip hooray to you Mr. McCain and up yours, too.
>> One thing we do know, it didnt help.
McCain didn’t WANT to win. He telegraphed that oh so clearly. He refused the support of his most ardent supporters. He didn’t really see much difference between himself and that other fellow, who (according to McCain) would make a swell president.
Blame McCain. Blame rushing back to Washington so he could kiss Paulson’s ass and “lead” the spending of a trillion dollars against the desires of his supporters. Blame the losers he chose to run his campaign (which comes right back to McCain).
But don’t blame the people on FR who saw right through the rat bastard before he even got the nomination. If you think they were the root cause, you’re just kidding yourself and that could be dangerous down the road.
FRegards
McCain was chosen by Democrats voting in open primaries like New Hampshire and Vermont. They find it funny as hell, and are already gearing up to stink up the next election.
The fact that Reid needs to go is a given around here. Many of us would like to see a conservative beat McCain in the republican primary however.
What I think is that RINOs and Moderates are lying, manipulative, bottom feeding scum but it doesn’t fit on a tagline.
McCain is soon to be an Ex-Parrot!
I’m shocked I tell you.
Juan McCain, the man who through his entire career went out of his way to attack conservative Republicans, is siding with his RINO campaign managers against a conservative.
LOL. Not exactly breaking news, McCain is the scum sucking RINO we all knew he was.
That is utter nonsense.
What’s more important?
