WASHINGTON, Nov 18 (Reuters) - U.S. Republican Senator John McCain on Wednesday strongly defended the top advisers from his 2008 presidential campaign in the face of sharp criticism from his vice presidential running mate, Sarah Palin.
McCain, in a telephone interview with Reuters, singled out campaign manager Steve Schmidt and senior adviser Nicolle Wallace for praise after Palin blasted the pair in her memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life."
"There's been a lot of dust flying around in the last few days and I just wanted to mention that I have the highest regard for Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace and the rest of the team ... and I appreciated all the hard work and everything they did to help the campaign," he said.
"I think it's just time to move on," he said.

.................and that’s why we call him a rino !!!!!! ,,,, always trying to advance the party . One part hero two parts jerk .
He should’ve known that there were members of the opposition only working to get him IN the race but not over the finish line.
He had Howard Dean staffers working on his 2008 campaign back in 2006.

Democrats for McCain posted by Ari Berman on 08/24/2006 @ 3:12pm
“It was only a matter of time before some Democrats began jumping ship to join the all-but-announced McCain for President campaign.”
“The first casualty is Nicco Mele, the former webmaster of the groundbreaking Dean for America campaign. According to the Hotline, Mele, whose firm Echo Ditto represents over twenty Democratic and progressive causes, has agreed to become one of McCain’s key online strategists...”
“...But Mele and other Democrats tempted to follow his lead should realize that the straight-talking McCain of 2000 is not the Bush-coddling McCain who wants to win in 2008.”
McCain who a few days before the election said: “American has nothing to fear from an Obama presidency.” Amazingly stupid. That sure helped get the vote out. What a horrible candidate and what a disservice he did to the cause of conservatism.
I don’t really know any Freepers who support McCain. A great many of us decided to back him last fall, after he chose Sarah for his running mate and after it became evident how really dangerous Obama was—a man who could probably wreck the country in a few months if he got into office.
So we refrained from badmouthing McCain. We treated him as a patriot. We kept our mouths zipped. We tried to tell him what he should do if he wanted to win.
I still don’t regret that. As Rush said at the time, conservatives would have had to DRAG McCain into the White House, kicking and screaming, and then keep after him for the next four years to keep him from constantly “reaching across the aisle.” As it turned out, he refused to be dragged.
Anyway, he lost. Now he needs to go away. His opinions are worthless to anyone. The media has abandoned its love affair with him now, that they can lick Obama’s toes.
“The Wallace gal was formerly employed by CBS.”
And John Stossel used to be on ABC’s 20/20.
Throwing out a statement like that without providing a background on what she did (every one of the MSM has their “token” conservatives) is negligent.
“So we refrained from badmouthing McCain.”
I don’t know what celestial body you were on but it certainly wasn’t Planet FR. The MDS was palpable right up to election day and could have been a factor in the election.
One thing we do know, it didn’t help.
Why did the McPain Camp decide to put her on the ticket as VEEP, if she is such a misfit????????? Maybe it was his”handlers” that are inept!!
Palin/Bachmann 2012! No Leftists in 2010!
The campaign was better than the candidate.
He's not going away.
I think McCain approved of what Steve Schmidt did.
Eff Juan McCain.
McCainiac is an a$$hat!
In the words of FReeper cripplecreek...
"Screw McQueeg and his little groin leeches."
P.S. How were those kneepads, by the way? Did they perform as advertised? Do you need a replacement set already?
My Friends, let us just MoveOn. What is it with straight shooter McCain’s double ententes? Worse Presidential candidate the RINOs could have picked!
That's because McLame is a Democrat pretending to be a Republican.
Those two threw the campaign on purpose. They are Rino’s and Sarah could tell.
Sarah could see that no one wanted to win, it was a joke. So she got mad, and went rogue.
Anyone that would hire those two for fast food work is nuts........
“ententes”
Is that a side dish in a Mexican restuarant?
LOL! Then on April 1 she can say to him - Fool! Johnnyboy, I just wanted to give you a ‘teachable moment’! Now, do you want a beer to swallow that or cross the aisle to speak w/your good friends? ;)
