Senate Democrats plan to unveil healthcare bill

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid prepared to unveil long-awaited healthcare overhaul legislation on Wednesday, with the first test vote on the package expected by the end of the week.

The healthcare reform bill, President Barack Obama's top domestic priority, has been delayed in the Senate for weeks as Reid waited for cost estimates and searched for an approach that can win the 60 votes needed to overcome Republican procedural hurdles.

Senate Democrats have scheduled a 5 p.m. EST meeting in which Reid will brief them on the bill, and on the cost estimates provided by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.

The bill's release would clear the way for a vote on Friday or Saturday by the full chamber on whether to proceed to debate on the measure -- the first key procedural hurdle for the Senate plan.

Exactly. Good point. This will be a nightmare if passed. If doesn’t pass, the democrats will blame Republicans forever for preventing healthcare insurance for the people uncovered. That is still better than it passing but the Republicans get the blame for everything because so many people out there only listen to the nebulous comments made for sound-bites by the politicians. Thank God the cap and trade is on hold but I can hear it now about how the evil Republicans prevented our world from being cleaned up. I have conversations with democrats all the time who I know and I am astounded at how uninformed they are. Yet, they have these deeply held convictions they espouse all based on lies and misinformation. It’s so frustrating.

It looks to me like that is exactly where this is headed. They're going to check your weight and your diet too. Keep in mind the idea behind Cap & Trade and they will want to harass you about the carbon footprint of the meat you eat but the health care system will be an easier way to pressure you about it.

Then there's seat belts, guns in the home, household chemicals you use on the lawn and in the house. All "health" concerns.
