However, Roger Middleton, a piracy expert at the London-based think tank Chatham House, said the international maritime community was still "solidly against" armed guards aboard vessels at sea, but that American ships have taken a different line than the rest of the international community. "Shipping companies are still pretty much overwhelmingly opposed to the idea of armed guards," Middleton said. "Lots of private security companies employee people who don't have maritime experience. Also, there's the idea that it's the responsibility of states and navies to provide security. I would think it's a step backward if we start privatizing security of the shipping trade."This is what passes for enlightened thought in the west. Insane.

Not much real thinking going on at that “think tank”.
Whole lotta blithering and driveling, though.

This is what passes for enlightened thought in the west. Insane. FWIW, it's exactly the same thought that was applied to the Barbary Pirates, back in the late 18th/early 19th centuries. America took a different line then, too....

Sheer stupidity - and he calls himself a “piracy expert”??? I think he needs a new line of work. Oh, perhaps underwater basket weaving - without SCUBA gear?

“Progressive” is always about follow the clique and being popular, not about using common sense.

“Roger Middleton” probably moonlights at Lloyds, providing the pirates with insurance info on ships so they know which ones to raid.
In any case, he’s a disgrace not just to the UK but to Western Civilization.

This, from a “”subject” of country whose culture and society is being overrun and undermined by Muslims.
Yeah...we’ll take advice from good ol’ Roger, won’t we...
When it comes to my life and those I love, i say F*** the “international community”.
Come to think of it, I say “F*** the “international community” for just about pretty much everything...
