The rest of western europe, minus the UK and Ireland, can eat sheep-sheet.
Spent a couple months in Italy and liked it very much, especially the people in Milan & Bologna (off the tourist track) -- and the Lakes are magnificent.
I went to Greece ten years ago and absolutely loved it. If not for the EU nonsense, would stake out a little place on one of the islands and live there.
Believe it or not, never been to Serbia, although I went to Montenegro, Herzegovina and Croatia when it was still part of Yugoslavia back in the late 1970's. Hated it when I got there, but by the end of the trip (six weeks later) I hated to leave -- although that trip gave me a new-found respect for a America and appreciation for what I had previously taken for granted in my life.
I used to feel like I culturally had one foot on one continent and one on another. Since the rise of the EU, they can keep Europe -- America is my continent and the US is my country. The EU can go screw itself. The EU is turning the wonderful colors, contrasts and flavor of Europe's various cultures into a boring, tasteless "EU stew", devoid of anything that warms or stirs the soul. It's like Europe has become "Germanized" -- regimented and efficient, but cold & boring.
